Ciocc/Soma. are either of these worth it
I've had it with potsing around and wasting my summer not having a ridable bike(every project i've started needs parts that I don't have and can't find). Would it be worth it to purchase this (then go to pick it up since i'm not paying 165 dollars for shipping and handling.) If i offered the seller like 700 or 800?

*edit** after a few minutes i've realized this is a rather stupid idea. I probably won't even make an offer on this bike. but still input is welcomed.

How about this soma frame? It appears to be in half way decent shape and is fairly reasonably priced. Would this be worth putting the funds on to purchase and put wheels on?

WAY overpriced... The components have no collector value and are so dated they are not worth much. They work well but are obsolete. That said these parts will certainly perfom better than same period campagnolo so it riding the crap out of it is your intention that are good components to do it on. The bike is still overpriced by about $500, IMHO. The frame is sweet. Additionally it has way to short of a stem for when it is fitted properly. Obviouly, the previous rider was way to small for it.

It's got shimano 600 derailures, a solid frame and it looks to be in impecable shape. Is this a decent idea or should I keep looking?

Wow, from a CIOCC to a "Walmart."
That CIOCC looks sweet. Chromed front+rear. 6-speed looks like, outdated but if u can get it cheap! Love the black+yellow scheme. I guess this is for sum1 who love Italian frame, but skip if all u want is a good deal. I have a feeling the seller is not letting this one go cheap.

Why does that Ciocc have a threadless stem i wouldn't expect that on a bike for that time. It looks to me like it has a treaded headset though so does he have some kind of adapter thing on there?

^I thought the same^ but reading carefully: sellers says it has a Scapin fork, so either he did a *good* job and cut off all the threading on a very long steerer, or he did a *bad* job and has clamped a threadless stem on a threaded area of the steerer (considered unsafe). Or it has a threadless adapter, but can't tell from the photos. In any case: too much money considering the swapped fork and shimano 600 gruppo, plus it's not in pristine condition, but I DO likes me them Cioccs! That Soma is a few steps way down the quality ladder, keep looking for a decent '80s UJB at a reasonable price.

I keep meaning to drop this seller a note explaining why no one is offering on that bike - other than the outrageous price and outrageous shipping fee. Notice, in addition to the creepy replacement headset, the broken rear brake, and the zip-ties in place of the rear derailleur cable guide on the chainstay.

Yeah, it has been up there for awhile and he should list it with a BIN of $500 and he may get lucky. The frame itself is very nice but there are enough weird things going on to keep a savvy shopper away.
There was a mis-listed Ciocc recently that probably sold for a very good price, I will see if I can find it.
edit: Here 'tis, listed under 'Collectibles", a 55cm Ciocc with full Shimano 600 for $205. Damn, I shoulda bid
Interestingly, this is the same Ciocc that I have and I have never figured out what the tubing is, only that it fits a 27.2 seatpost which would indicated Columbus SL or SLX. It rides very very well.

It's just a threaded to threadless adapter.

Sometimes these things have sentimental value, specially if he built it himself. Let him decide whether he wants to sell it at your price. May decide to keep it. His bike.
