The new Hetchins Magnum Opus

Can you believe they have the nerve to put the Hetchins decal on a carbon fork?

This is an outrage!

Hetchins logos look good on anything. If someone will pay for it, then have at it.

Now, the Parsons Russell Terrier next to the bike in one of the photos should be replaced by a Borzoi.

I'll agree that it looks odd. They should at least paint the fork to match the frame. On the other hand they are a custom builder and will probably put whatever the buyer wants on.

I would love that track bike, or any "curly" Hetchins.

Gee, as long as the curved stays are there and the lugs + colour looks mid ´60s its a desirable bike! But then again, its kinda strange mixing with the forks. Its almost right, I think...or wrong?

There's something about that oversized lugged tubing that does NOT suit the Hetchins rear triangle, nor their lugs.

Damn right! No real Hetchins were made after the name became a commodity.

Actually one would think that curly stays made out of carbon fibre would work as originally advertised, unlike the steel ones, where the benefit was all in the head of the rider and the PR.

Oh, and one more thing. That non-quill stem offends me more than the carbon fork. That's about as anti-vintage as you can get.

Bleah! Looks like they parked it with the arse-end too close to the space heater.

Mike, I once left an LP (you know, a vinyl album) in the back seat of my car on a hot day and it warped. I stuck it in the oven to see if it would flatten out. It didn't.

I imagine without catering to riders seeking more modern machines their market is getting a little thin...

Like the Onda stays on Pinarello, and the zertz stays on a Specialized.

It's sorta like the new sloped top tube lugged 953 Waterford-built Paramount with carbon fork. It's an anachronism that looks strange, yet oddly familiar.

While it was advertised that the curvy stays gave the frame a livelier feel, the real purpose was marketing. Back in the 30s, amateurism still had some meaning. Riders weren't allowed to put advertisements on their bikes. This included the names of the bike manufacturers. The curvy stays were distinctive and patented. Everyone immediately knew who was riding a Hetchins.
Ah, the good old days. I wish they would reintroduce that rule, at least on my Saturday morning ride.

I agree with you. They have long been the masters of the pretentious. I've no interest whatsoever in an old one, and even less in this.

...whatever it says, it sure started some reaction (great commercial teaser)! A ride could decide between walking or talking... Some sort of review would be interesting.

So, it's outrageous for the company that put curvy stays on a bike wheneveryone else used straight to use a carbon fork. Hmm, something hypocritical about that statement.

It's not the "same" company really. But I get what you're saying. Curly stays on a bike back then would have appeared just as outrageous and a carbon fork on a bike that purports to be a classic today.

Remember, we here in the Classic & Vintage Forum are all about preserving the bikes as they were, not *******izing them with modern gimmicks.

...murky water this is, since the forum often discusses rebuilds and upgrading...carbon forks could be just that although I´m not in favour to such a strange upgrade.

Hello All,

You can get the bike frame with steel forks
if thats you pleasure. Be warned you'll need
deep pockets to own one of these babies.

I started saving for mine in '76

Cheers.

I think I'm getting a carbon fork for one of my frames. I was going to build a new fork, but I'd like to try carbon.

From what I've read, there is direct, unbroken lineage from the founders to the current builder. Bianchi and Ford are gone too, but not the companies...
