Rip Van Winkle Tommasini w/photos: (in attic for 17 yrs)

Ok, you vintage guys convinced me to build up my Tommasini Super Prestige that I bought new in 1989. I rode it for a short while in 1989, and then removed the Dura Ace 7 speed stuff for another bike. The fact was….with the disco paint job and the chrome...it was just to pretty to use for everyday training and racing. The frame and fork cost about $950 from Colorado Cyclist. It was sleeping up in the attic since 1992.

So, from my attic I also found a old Chorus seat post, a Cinelli bar and stem, and some Shimano 600, Dura Ace, and Ultegra stuff to build it up. The Dura Ace bb had white Campy Grease and was still good, but I cleaned it out and relubed the bearings. Need to do the Headset, and find a braze on front derailleur and then I'm good to go.

I could have used a chainsaw to remove the shifter bosses so I could run STI shifters, but I figured you guys would hunt me down and hurt me bad. LOL....I read about some nimrod name Drew....I guess Drew is the new "Fred".

Enjoy the photos. I'll post some more after it is built and has a few hundred miles and I can compare the Tommasini to my “plastic” Douglas road bike.

beautiful bike. in all honesty a shame it has been locked up and not ridden.
What size is it?
You do know if it does not have campy on it, that it will be disgraceful to a legend builder of fine italian frames.
Now I believe they are out-sourced and built in Tiwan and the daughters are trying to rebuld the company and name
I always wanted a Tommasina.
Again a beautiful frame!!

If you want either brifters or barcons, you can always mount adaptor pulleys on the downtube shift lever bosses.

1. That bike is smoking.
2. What's your address?
3. Do you ever leave the garage door open?

My selfish side wishes you had sold it to me. My bike lover side is glad you're getting on the road again.

Frame's nice, but I covet that crank set, and stem, and seat post.

Man-o-man.... that bike is not only pornographic, it's my size.

If that were my frame, I would totally build it up with modern 10 speed Campy. A top-tier steel vintage frame and a modern group is a match made in heaven. Try it - you'll never look back.

Quote from the 1976 movie The Gumball Rally, as the character Franco Bertollini - Ferrari Team (played by Raul Julia) gets in his race car and prepares to take off:

"And now my friend, the first rule of Italian driving. Whatsa behind me (breaks rear view mirror off and tosses it behind him), is not important!"
