Monark Bike

I posted before I think but I have this stuff to mention, one, he said theres no rust, A big lie, two, He said because it's old, the right buyer will come along and pair a great amount for it, says the chain guard is there, just not on it, and a horn piece is broken, I don't care if this is a low end bike, or what not but cleaned up and painted with new parts I can make it into what I wanted, heres three pics. I say 5$ lol but honistly, he wont sell it and has had it posted all summer, no ones buying it, what do you all say it's worth?

Its not the lowest end bike they made and the guy is right, the right buyer may come along and pay a good amount of money for it, but if your going to buy it just to paint it and "make it what you want" why not just get another junker? This one is really nice and would be a shame to molest, Id buy it, get rid of the rust, make it complete, and clean the heck out of it. Its only orig once! Here are two pics of some of their higher end bikes and one that looks kinda like the one you want. Whats he asking for his?

.

Dude I'd love one of those Monark, I don't wanna molest this bike, I wanna make it original but some stuff might need paint, just don't know how much I wanna pay for it, so people here will be the judge, also, "theres no rust" I see rust, if I do obtain it I plan on scanning ebay for the lights and what not. already have a set of whitewalls waiting for a bike.

Hello HSean,

That is a pretty nice bicycle I'd say about a
hundred dollars is fair from the few pictures
you've posted. Many I know would find the
bicycle quite desireable, like yourself.
Best of luck with it.

Cheers.

Five bucks would be a wet dream...

If that bike has a skip tooth drive and chain you are looking at a few hundred dollars worth of parts and if the frame and tank are restorable (ie. just surface rust) then I can see someone asking $200 - $300 and then the work involved to bring it back to as nice a shape as possible would also cost some good coin and time.

I'd keep a bike this original as possible.

There is no prine, they mention they wanna trade for a scooter, I'm guessing a moto one, Good luck with that. lol I told him 200$ before he wouldn't do it, Everyone around here has seen the bike, no ones buying, we will just wait him out, I'd pay alot more but To someone that just is selling it for alot because they know it's old and don't do anything to fix it, I aint gonna do that, I need to do a good amount of work and use lots of money to fix that up to original, finding the parts is another thing.

HSean, it looks as if if doesn't even need any particular paintwork if you're willing to live with mild patina - if you were to polish that with Meguiars Scratch X, it would look markedly improved.

An entirely different question; since I´m a Monark-rider myself (swedish MCB = MonarkCrescentBolagen), I wonder where your Monark were made? Is it US?

I saw an early-40s Monark Silver King (similar to the first bike in the reply from ilikebikes) sell for $400 at an antiques show this past summer, and it was much nicer than the rusty example in the first post.

The seller is correct though, it's worth more than an insulting $5.00 offer, and someone with deeper pockets will probably come along. There are definately better bikes to be had, but if you want a $5.00 bike you should lower your standards.
