Merckx Corsa 01...Just couldn't wait!

I was going to wait till I got a modern group for it, but I just couldn't stand seeing it everyday just staring at me and cursing at me for not riding it. So, I dug up an old Shimano 600 Groupo I had laying around and decided to use that till I got what I really wanted for it. It's all Shimano 600 except for the crank set. I will be finishing it up before the weekend so I can ride it on Sunday. I'm wondering how the ride is going to differ from all my other Merckx bikes, especially the MX Leader. So what do you guys think of this one? I know it's not all that C&V but I don't ever post in any other forum.

Beautiful! Love the chrome fork and the paint job. One think I've never liked about Merckx is the font he uses for the logo "Eddy Merckx" but that's just me. All in all, looks fantastic!

I'm have all the parts necessary to turn my Miyata to a modern 10 speed too. Just need to find the time to take it to my LBS

Very nice. I love the pearl white Merckx paint. Chorus 10 speed silver and some Veloflex gumwalls would be great on that.

The chrome on the fork is pretty good. The chain stay are where there is a bit of rust, but I should be able to handle that. The paint is not perfect but it will do for now. This is the bike that I'm going to have repainted in the Molteni color. I've always wanted one in that color and I think my other Merckx, which I was thinking about repainting in the Molteni orange, would look better as it is; YELLOW.
As for your Miyata, why don't you try putting it on yourself. I might take a bit, but the satisfaction of knowing you did it will be huge.

WEIRD! That's exactly what I'm planning on getting for it. Well, that pearl white looks like it will be getting replaced with Molteni Orange. It has many chips and scrapes and well, I've always an Molteni color bike. I might just be dumb but atleast I'll have something I've always wanted.

you justkeep pulling them out from the garage , one after another .

IMHO riding many miles on several different E:Merckx in my stash with groups from Shimano 600 to C-record .i have to say that nothing Performs better (For me ) than a complete C-record group and a nice set of 44cm Cinelli bars ..Silky smoothe and precise .
hands down Campagnolo & Merckx go hand in hand , IMO :
Cheers

I would keep your Merckx the pearl white color. Molteni orange Merckx are a dime a dozen, but the pearl white is beautiful and distinctive.

Love that bike. Even the different bottle cages add to the bike - they're red and blue just like the Eddy Merckx on the downtube. Very cool.

Agreed - I adore the pearl white scheme.

Last time I saw an oversized-tube Merckx repainted in the Molteni colors, it just didn't look right (pic is somewhere here on the forum, don't recall where). Would be a shame to do so on this one.

-Kurt

P.S.: Gilberto, do you have a closeup of the dropout treatment? The lugs and treatment of the entire frame (down to the top tube cable routing) looks nearly identical to my EL-tubed Guerciotti that got wrecked on Sunday. I'm rather stunned by the similarities.

Fine. You guys now see why my wife hates me being on this forum; I now must go and look for another Merckx to have repainted in Molteni Orange. I do like the way it looks. I guess I just wanted a nice "new" looking bike.

Kurt- I'll take some pics tomorrow as it's late here. Send me a link to where I can see pics of your Guerciotti. What the hell happened on Sunday that got it wrecked? Sorry to hear about that.

Found a photo of the oversize-tube Merckx. Doesn't look right, even if one isolates the frame from the kooky carbon fork and everything else. That larger downtube just does not suit Moltini orange and the older Merckx logo.

Wow! You're right. That fork looks a lot like the MX leader fork too.

According to the owner of that machine, it's a carbon fork that was painted to match. Apparently, the entire front triangle of this thing has been rebuilt.

Yeah, don't go orange. Orange Merckx are a dime a dozen (you know what I mean). The current color is really cool!

I mean, who wants to drive a red Ferrari... (uuhh......ME ME ME!)

I remember that bike!

It was worse than a gooch that got broadsided, so considering it all, it actually came out decent. Hate the carbon fork, but...

You gotta find a nice chrome fork! The carbon fork just doesn't do the rest of the bike justice.

It isn't mine. Look him up in the STI/Brifters thread.

IIRC, he has the original fork for it as well, repainted along with the rest of it.

Here is an update to the Merckx 01. I finished today getting everything all straight away and found out that I need new pulleys for the RD. It shifts Ok but I think that the new pulleys will make it just right. The components on it are only temporary as I decided to put the Chorus group that's on the MX Leader on the 01 and purchase a new 10 Speed Chorus group for the MX Leader. I put a Rolls on it just now and it looks good. What do you guys think??
