Miyata 914 Transformation (Lots of pictures)
Just went for a 25 mile maiden voyage on my modern Miyata 914. I just love it! Much smoother than before and the lighter wheel really makes a difference. I'm sure some of it may just be in my head, but I think it feels smoother, accelerates faster, and feels more efficient when powering uphill. And of course, more gears always helps.
This is how it looked like when I first got it in March 2008, a 1991 914SE NOS off Ebay:
I admit, I absolutely love the look of downtube shifters. I just don't like using them. And the original gearing was 53/42 front, with 13/23 back...I'm really not that fit.
So, transformation #1 - Sora 7 speed STI with 13/28 cassette:
Still wasn't happy about the gearing. So with upgradeitis in full force, I did one further transformation to fully modernize the ride. I think I may have chosen the wrong bar tape color (or arguable need a white seat), and the tires...well...bought them on Chainlove and that was the only color it came it. I may switch the tires off my Easton wheels so that the overall look will improve.
Potential tire switch with tires shown on Look

Nice build Cuda, and I second the bartape choice, looks good. Nice overall build out. Someday I would like to do an 80's Trek with the 600 series group, like the Trek 560 I owned back then.
Congrats.

Hutchison Fusion Ultra 2.

I paid $20 for each tire on Chainlove. Unfortunate about the color, but I think it should match the Look better than the Miyata.

Its been done really well but I've got to ask myself why?
You had a really nice classic bike, in fantastic condition - and then tried to turned it into a modern bike (which you already seem to have).
But it's your bike and each to his own, it would be a booring place if we all liked exactly the same things

I agree with the white saddle idea. The bartape looks a bit weird being the only white thing on the bike, but with a white saddle it would look great.
Other than that, great looking bike.
