This is a little complicated, here's the back-story...Thanks to the great generosity of Tigerprawn, I have his Nishiki International frame at home. The fork was completely trashed, yet the frame itself in in very good shape I examined it carefully for bulges and dents and so far see none. This is probably from the early '80s, may be built of Tange Champ #2 tubing, has Suntour forged horizontal DOs, has NOT been drewed, is 58cm C-T with a 56cm TT. here's a "before" pic:

we removed the crank and BB, upon removing the HS I found the race to be cracked so that's toast, too.

Here's the deal: somebody (preferred from this forum) who can pick up locally (SF BayArea) can have the bare frame for FREE...

I have 2 options for a replacement fork, both are all chrome Taiwanese, one threaded and with single eyelets and more clearance, drilled for Allen bolt front brake, close to new appearance; the other threadless, tight clearance, drilled for a nutted front brake and brand new, no eyelets.
I know I have a HS I can install for the threaded fork, don't think I have a 1" threadless HS...I can cut down either fork's steerer and they both are longer than they need be.

If somebody wants the frame WITH a fork and HS I offer to sell that for my cost for those parts, nothing additional for the bare frame...cost will depend on the option but figure between $60-$90 and if you're out of the area shipping is extra, too.

(I will update this with pix of the forks when my camera is charged)
To up the ante- I just dismantled a '77 or '78 Nishiki Compitition (58 cm, Superbe and Super Maxi bits) also with a front hit. The fork is fine, the frame is trash. Frame is (was) DB Tange, fork is maroon with a semi-sloping crown. If someone bites on the frame above, I can ship the fork for probably under $30. I'll even throw in the nice headbadge if I can get it off without boogering it up too badly. Anyone want the nice lugs with the little crown cutouts? PM me for pictures.

Bumping since still looking.

edit: would also consider 177.5 or 180 mm crank arm, but then would need right and left side

balindamood, I'll ask the recipient if he hasn't seen your offer^ to take a look, I'd go for that deal if I was keeping the frame! I don't think he'll want the badge since this one has a decal on the head tube...but who knows?

You're sort of moving out of the C&V parts area, so I'd also try the Road trade thread....though many of the folks here are closet modernists...

I can't believe I don't have one, but I need:
a LH crank arm, 170mm, to go with a RH Shimano Exage...and it doesn't have to be that good a match, just with a good square hole and good threads.
Could also use a standard alloy Mtn. bike bar with some rise, about 2"+or-, silver or black, nothing fancy.
I have much to swap, just name whatever you need that's worth the same.
Thanks,
Alan

Top Mount Shimano 600 shifters?

Anyone have these in great condition? Were they SIS or friction? My '85 Panasonic Team is all 600 except for some 105 shifters on the DT and it really gets my OCD going.

Would like hoods to fit these Shimano 600 levers. Color unimportant. If no hoods available I could use complete levers and hoods of any brand, but similar vintage. Thanks to Velobase for image.

Jan, I do have a pretty much NOS set of identical Shimano 600 levers with black hoods--they have some very light scuffing on one of the levers that eBay sellers tend to describe as 'shopwear' and the hoods are dried out and pretty fragile, but if you're interested we can work something out. eBay seller Mike Fraysse almost always has a set of the hoods up on auction for a BIN of 29.99 plus shipping.

so this is not a pic of your bike? the shifters in the pic look like regular 600 SIS DT shifters, which should have a friction setting. I do not recall seeing this perticular mount before pretty neat. how are you DT 105 shifters mounted?

I do not know why I keep looking at this shifter but it looks like a homemade bracket made from a SIS stem shifter mount.

Some of the 83-84 models in Centurion, others had that piggy-back mount. The Centurions had Suntour shifters, though.
If they could be adapted to indexed, boy that'd be pretty nice on some upgrades.

Those are SIS, but of course can be set for friction. I believe they only came from the factory in the 6 speed version, but you might be able to adapt for 7 with 7s levers.

But no, I don't have a set of 600s. I do have a DA set that's going on a spring build. The mount is a little different, but top of the tube mount.
