I need the cones as well. Are the cones the same in the Cyclone Pedals as the Superbe?

That is what I don't understand. Are these an early version with loose ball bearing?

Every pair I have come across just took a cartridge which was a generic size one could order from Enduro, for example.

SunTour Superbe pedals came in two distinct varieties: the 1st generation, which was pretty much a Campagnolo "Record" quill pedal clone, and the 2nd generation (also called ("Superbe Pro"), which used an extruded body, sealed bearings and replaceable cages.

The first generation pedal had loose balls and cones, and you could likely use parts from other Campy clone pedals (MKS "Sylvan," etc.) as replacements:



The 2nd generation pedal was an entirely different design, and doesn't use separate cones, but sealed cartridge bearings. It has a superficial resemblance to the later Cyclone pedal, but shares no parts, as the Cyclone used traditional loose balls and cones.

Well I am embarrassed!! I bought the Superbe pedals cheap off ebay. One pedal does not spin very well. The other was perfect. I am used to the Cyclone pedal that looks the same as the Superbe but has cones and loose bearings so when I opened this one up The cartridge stayed in the pedal body. All I saw was a bare spindle and thought it was missing its bearings. I learn something new every day. Just wish I did not do it in front of so many people. LOL I get today`s dumb ass award?

My pair of Superbe pedals also take cartridge bearings. I was surprised when I saw the post for bearing cones and bearings for Superbe pedals. I didn't realize that some didn't have cartridge bearings.

In my pathetic attempt at a defense, I never have seen a Cartridge Bearing before tonight. Everything I ever touched had loose or caged bearings.

There you go steve. JohnD for the win with an example of early cone style loose ball pedals. You're not a dumb a$$, just an honest mistake. I suspected you had cartridges because those are the only ones I have ever seen but I know anything is possible and John proved that there is an earlier version without cartridge.

Well, you're already most of the way to resurrecting that pedal. Now that you have the spindle out, you just need to pull the cartridges. If you can find a bearing puller small enough to fit, it makes the job easier:



Otherwise, a long punch inserted through the pedal body can drive the cartridge out. Take the cartridges to an industrial bearing supplier (or find the part number on the seal and look it up on the internet) to match a new set of cartridges.

Take some care pressing the new cartridges into the pedal body so they go in straight and you're not pounding on the bearings.

ISO: A set of hub innerds that are compatible with Shimano 105SC hubs, including dust caps things. If you have a cracked Shimano hub from the early to mid 90's it would probably work.

I also need some rivet nuts threaded for water bottle cage bolts. M5x0.8mm thread. I can't seem to find anywhere online willing to sell quantities less than 10

10 riv-nuts can't cost more than a couple bucks.. why not order 10 and have spares on hand? I like to put them in chainstay bridge holes for cleaner fender mounts.. might be a way you can use up the extras.

ISO: a tall order. I am looking for a 44cm drop bar in 25.4... no ergo bend, I need to get it in a traditional quill stem. It's for a flp, I don't even care what colour they are.

Have: I have many things to trade including narrow nitto randonneur bars. You know how the same 40cm bars came on every back BITD? Yeah I can't ride this 25" touring bike with those bars and the test rider will just marvel in discomfort if they ride this thing, so I need something wider. I don't want to drop big coin for new nitto bars but I might have too if I want to get this thing out the door.

Cheep online suggestions for where I might find such a handlebar also welcome.
