so if someone set up a buy/sell/trade C&V forum, would we get banned for participating in it?

My idea is for the administrators to create another subforum (a-la C&V Value Inquiries) available for contributing members, effectively satisfying both parties.

I confess that I have always thought a "Want To Buy" posting was in keeping with the spirit of the stickey since it's title is ISO/WTB. I would rather post I have stuff to trade, or I will buy it, rather than confessing I'll do anything to get something

How about a sub forum for C&V in the For Sale section in the Market Place. The board could still enforce the same requiremnts to be able post for sale items and we could have a targeted and dedicated listing that wouldn't annoy everyone else and be more user friendly for us.

It pains me BigBossMan had a stash of Campy parts for sale ands I missed it.

I think it's pretty simple. Post an ISO, and take the negotiations to the private messaging system. And when you post a For Trade, don't mention $$$ in your want list - either directly or indirectly.

My feedback on this issue...

I went Titanium to be able to sell. C&V stuff in For Sale doesn't get much response, but modern stuff does. It was the first time on BF, too, that people made offers on bikes and didn't come through. It happens.

I list stuff in the For Trade section, even put "I'm not buying, want to trade" in the posting, and I get offers to trade all right, for cash. (Sort of like those swap meets, where the swapping is for cash only).

My preference would be two threads in C&V: ISO/Trade only, and ISO/WTB/Cash, with all negotiating via PM's. Quicker searching, and with the terms understood.

Just an idea. I'm sure it's flawed.

Do you mean outside of BF? Certainly would not get banned for participating. We don't ban people for posting things they've found on CL or e-bay, or mentioning them as a source for buying or selling.

As Mr. Stormcrowe has mentioned in the fixie/ss for trade thread, just "fly under the radar" and don't make it so obvious you want to do a cash transaction that he has to delete the post. Everyone knows exactly what "PM me" means in the right context. I know I'm obviously not the biggest player here in terms of making trades and purchases, but I assure you that you will never see me in any subforum that requires membership to participate. I love bikeforums, and especially C&V, but there's no way I can come to terms with the fact that it now costs about as much to join for a year as it used to cost for a lifetime. I've been a member of paid forums in the past and this one is far and away the most expensive. I just can't justify the cost of a star when so much of the functionality I require is available without it. I only say this because I'm betting there are a lot of folks here who feel the same way.

Yeah, purevl has the right idea. Stuff isn't for buying, it's for trade, PM me to discuss details.

But then what if there were forum narcs that made sure that wasn't happening?

Anyway...

I really need some Shimano 600 brake lever ferrules, else I can't get this charity bike going.

The FS and WTB sections for upgraded members goes back to the days when the forum was privately owned. At the time the owner needed a way to generate revenue in order to keep the forum afloat therefore he mandated that only paying members could post in the for sale or wanted to buy sections. I odnt have a problem with that.

Obviously posting WTB of FS items in threads like this would circumvent the previous owners attempt to generate revenue and keep this forum therefore it was prohibited.

Considering the forum is now corporate owned I see no reason for the old system to exist. Forums need to change with the times and the needs of its members regardless of them being paid or unpaid members.

I'm a member of another IB site that happens to be one of the biggest auto enthusiast sites on the 'net and more than likely IB's premier site. Over there they have a FS/WTB section for each sub forum and it works well. The rules are relatively simple with the primary rule being that anything offered for sale must have a price.

If its good for one IB site there no reason it cant be done here.

If each forum had its own FS/WTB section it would make moderating much easier. All the mods would need to do is peek in and make sure anything listed for sale had a price. It wouldnt be hard to setup either, all they neec to do is change the tiltes from ISO/WTB to FS/ISO/WTB.

I need a brake caliper barrel adjuster for a mid 80's Record caliper. One of the ones with an o-ring in the middle to help with grip when turning.

I think these things are available in different sizes so if anyone knows how to tell the size it would be appreciated in case I need to go with a later version. My LBS classic Campy guru hooked me up with a hideous Shimano star nutted piece of functional heresy, but there has to be a better way.

It's my last remaining itty bitty obstacle to having every piece of every part to build out the Rossin. Please help a brutha out before I break down and build this thing with 9 speed Veloce out of frustration.

Edit: Not sure what the trade value on something like this is but I have Simano, Campy, and various boxes of tape, cabling, pedals, bars, stems, etc, etc.

Yup - and if I have anything decent for sale, that's where I go first. It is also the first stop when I'm looking to buy. This forum is pretty much useless for that.

And, if you're gonna burn people for $25 a year, it would be nice if the forum was more stable and the search function wasn't a POS. Just sayin'........

So, what miamijim states clearly is that some entity called IB owns a bunch of forums. Over there on the automobile-IB forum those notorious 'for sale' posts cause no issues. Here, under the some ownership, but with obviously a differnet set of ruling under-lords, this is a no-go? Seems like the people granted decision-making status here need to look outside BF, and maybe rethink a few things?

Also looking for Shimano uniglide 6 sp cassette. Something with a touring-friendly set up preferably (with larger low-gear cog).

PM me.

Well, it's not an exact match, but it looks really really good from this end. The differences are minimal to the casual observer and the price is right. It doesn't even begin to approach the hideous nature of the make do replacement I have right now.

Pulling one of my modern adjusters and seeing if it fits might not be a bad idea, now that I think about it. Apparently there are different thread sizes in some of the older stuff.

Thanks for the link, it's a go on this end if I don't turn one up in the next day or so. I might just order two and pretend they came that way, lol.

Campy brake adjusting barrel

Is this the one you need? I don't know if it's Campy but it worked on my Record brake just fine.

Fate is a fickle creature. I'm at work and any pics from a hosting site get blocked, lol.

I'll check when I get home around 7:00AM CST.
