First post. Hello to all Classic and Vintagers

Hello to everyone here. My name's Manny and I've been lurking about a bit on (Cudak888) Kurt's suggestion that I visit the forum. I met him while scoping out a bike he was flipping, and mentioned that I had an old 753 Merckx with a complete (almost) Mavic group. I think he posted a couple of pics the day I showed it to him. After having shelved my cycling gear a number of years ago for other, more complicated interests, I decided to start riding a bit after knee surgery this summer. I was starting to get back into cycling again when I met Kurt, and I've since caught the bug in full and I'm finding that I've got some catching up to do.
Kurt has been a good enabler and a wealth of knowledge.

I'm Looking forward to interacting with this group in the future, and as a warm-up here's a few pictures of a couple of Merckx's. The Gran Prix I've owned since new in 1990 and the Corsa Extra I bought from a really nice guy in Miami that bought it new around the same time. I ordered the Gran Prix with the Mavic group and interestingly, the Corsa Extra had also been fitted with a Mavic group.

Salut!

great bike! and an unusual group, as well. Mavic was the SRAM of the 80's...not Shimano, not campy, what you needed to make a statement. And the parts worked well, too. I have a Mavic group on a Vitus, and it works as well as anything in period...you'll do your knee right if you wear that frame out.

Wuzzup with all of the Merckx's? Seems like there are a lot of 'em getting pictures posted lately...

I dunno. It's taken me nearly twenty years to post a picture of mine.

Thank you bmaxwell, a pleasure meeting you as well.

I know where a nice and shiny Paramount can be found. I hear the owner just finished restoring it.

I agree, I really like the design. The RD looks almost industrial. They do the job quite well to boot.

No, but after a few beers you might be able to talk me into trying to nab it from Kurt if it's your size. We'll have to wait until he falls asleep, assuming he doesn't sleep with it.

Lucky for me, neither of you ride 61cm.

Too bad, bmaxwell, that you never got to meet my short-lived (pardon the pun) De Rosa. 49cm, if I recall right - perhaps closer to East Hill sizing:

Oh this makes me feel good! Sort of like when a member invites a complete stranger to come to worship one Sunday. Gives me goose bumps.

Well done Kurt! And welcome Manny, to the Congregation of Vintage Inclusiveness. Now bmaxwell, you better behave yourself girl!
