Ok - southern US folks and Australians, etc with summer weather now - we're socked in with cruddy fog again and 18 degrees. I need some motivation with sunny ride photos

MLK Jr day ride
I had the day off and I knew it was going to snow here and be cold (not Minnesota cold) so I rode 45 miles this morning on the Cinelli. Very cold at 25 degrees; both my water bottles froze up at about half way through on the CT border. I turned myself inside out on this ride.

Well done, JJ, and nice pics.
Today was the warmest day we've seen in 5 weeks - 29 degrees, and it felt like Spring. I got out on the commuter and did my usual 11 mile RT to the grocery store and the gym.

Thanks guys.
A couple of years ago I had a 30 degree 30-35 mile rule. (No sub 30 degree extended road rides, and nothing longer than 35). Last winter was so mild in New England I forgot this rubric. It's snowing right now.

WNG, I like the looks of that Bianchi!
JJS, your Cinelli looks familiar... Nice pics as usual too! In fact, some of those roads look familiar, but I can't remember exactly. I confuse some of the views with the route SBP took Sharon and me on back in the summer.

I could only manage about 15 miles on the Cape Cod Rail Trail yesterday. Brrrrr. But at least it wasn't wet, and I nearly had the whole place to myself.

Did a metric around the southern tip of San Francisco Bay yesterday. I never feel like stopping to take pics, but here's a few.

This past Tuesday, I got to put in one last ride with Drillium Dude before he prepares to depart for his assignment.
He coaxed me into summiting South Mountain in South Phoenix. South Mountain is the largest state park in AZ and may be in the USA. I've been there about 3 years ago with my at-the-time family. But we drove up. And it's about 6 miles snaking up to the top. I had serious doubts about making it. But threw caution in the wind.
At the base, we got a little lost, but soon found a map of the region and got back on the road to the summit. We had to share the road with cars, but there were so few during the weekday, it was basically empty but for cyclists. We saw a good dozen, mostly on modern rides. I think we were the only ones on steel.
It was perfect weather, started out 65-70F, and the day hit 81F. A cool breeze on the mountain helped during the climb. I was pretty out of shape and had to make rest stops at over-looks along the road. Once I got my wind back, we were back to climbing. Almost near the top overlook called Dobbins Point, I was suffering...but determined to make it. Jeff was patient, and a great motivator. This was the first REAL ride for my Bianchi, and it was a thrashing of a test! The drivetrain didn't let me down.
I made it to Dobbins Point, barely. Boy was I happy. There was still another mile to the summit with the TV towers. After a photo session, Jeff elected to take it on. I played it prudent, and passed.
I left 10 minutes later, and took a spot good for catching Jeff at a high speed descent. With camera ready, Jeff didn't show for a long time. So, I decided to try to climb up to see if I could find him. I managed to make it half way when Jeff showed up. He said the last bit to the towers was brutal, and I may be over-geared to try it. So, we headed down for an exciting descent. And boy was it!!
We were going at a good clip, I estimate 45 mph easily. The turns were sharp at the top and I did enter one a bit too hot! We got a few nice shots, but it was all too soon, over.
Back at the bottom, packing our bikes, I reflected on what I didn't think I should do or could do. But I did it, hard as hell but worth the effort. I had a heck of a good time. It will get easier with more miles ridden.
Pics to be added.....meantime, Drillium Dude posted our ride here, enjoy the warm temp scenery!

Great ride report WNG and a nice way to send off the Dude for his last assignment. I sure miss riding in warm sunny weather. You have it made the in PHX this time of the year. That Bianchi of yours looks nice. The color scheme resembles my Merckx..

WNG, that's spectacular.
South Mountain Park is the biggest municipal park in the country. The biggest state park is Adirondack state park in New York State. It started the whole public park concept. It is larger than the National Parks of Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Glacier, and Great Smoky Mountains combined! It is the largest park and the largest state-level protected area in the contiguous United States, and the largest National Historic Landmark.

A little 10 mile easy ride downtown and back today (St Pete) along the waterfront parks, low 70's, breezy, VERY SUNNY....and I forgot to pack a water bottle...oh well, only 10 miles.
Cruising the North Shore Park trail,
Stopped to see what time it was, stand on the proper month and your shadow tells the time, about 2:15, close enough for bicycle time.
Down at the Harbor, one of the Tall Ships in town to "Invade" Tampa tomorrow in the Pirate invasion.
