Looks doubly tasty, Jim.
My camera phone does no justice, so I had packed my camera for my weekend trip - took it out earlier this afternoon as I was packing my saddle bag - no batteries or SD card...oops. I went on a slow, leisurely ~hour ride along the CT coast. Beautiful. I'll share pics another time.

Led my spin class in the morning, then headed out for some mountain biking later this afternoon. It didn't wind up all that well. The Croll caught the front wheel on the bottom of a root drop that I've done a hundred times, and over the bars I went. Landed straight on top of my head. Have a very sore neck, but the arms and legs are working so the Bell helmet did it's job. Already replaced it with the same model. Don't worry, the Croll is just fine.
The vintage club ride looks like it was a blast.

My old Peugeot has been on a number of group rides lately. Its great for surfaces that arent always asphalt.
Last ride was in Pittsburgh on the 26th. It was an underwear ride. Lots of fun.

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
Got together with 3 other forum members, one wife, and two of our daughters and went for a big squishy ride through the river valley on the trails... it gave my daughter and I a good chance to road test the new rigid mtbs I have built this last month and they performed flawlessly.
When everyone else was tired out my daughter still wanted to race me home... tonight she also discovered why her new ride had 2.0 tyres which handled the loose gravel, composted trails, and hard packed trails really well.

@Vonruden: Looks like great fun. Must have been hard to keep you eyes on the road with so much eye candy to look at. I'd have been spellbound by that lovely crank on the '52 Bianchi.
@Chrome Molly: Glad the noggin' survived! Hope that stiff neck goes away soon.
Yesterday was my 41st b-day. Got in 49 miles across the East Bay hills for a loop out to Castro Valley along Redwood Road, back to Berkeley along Pinecrest and Skyline Blvd. Here in this first pic, you can barely make out the San Francisco skyline in the distance
Pinehurst is one of my favorite local stretches of road--nice road surface, covered in shade from Redwood trees, with a gurgling stream off to the side of the road (not pictured).
Stopped at a golf course for some water and came across a nice Della Santa.
Back on the road...
It must be lady bug birthing season. There were literally thousands of these along the route. I mistook the first swarm of them for bees and got a little freaked out until I realized they were harmless. Throughout the ride, when I was traveling slow up a hill, a few would land on my bars or gloves to catch a free ride. Sorry for the out of focus pic.

I hadn't really examined the inside of the helmet until today. These things really spread out an impact. The many small stress fractures in the foam that don't show up on the picture are even more impressive. I'm taking today off to try and get rid of the headache and let my neck heal a bit. Need to be good as new by the long weekend.
Hope your ribs are feeling all better Grady.

Tour de Central Pike 2014
Yesterday I went out on a little something I like to call "Tour de Central Pike." This is one of my favorite rural roads in central RI. I often incorporate sections of this road into my rides, but today I went from almost the very beginning to almost the very end. (I didn't start at the beginning because it's in the 'hood in Providence and I didn't do the last two dirt miles because of wife imposed time constraints).
The ride was 47 miles on a beautiful 85 degree, sunny day. I started in Johnston and rode through Scituate and Foster RI. Here's a pictoral montage of my ride.
A little background gleaned from some local historical annuals:
The Foster and Scituate Central Turnpike
The turnpike was built between 1814-1824, by a private corporation, between Providence and the Connecticut line. It was named the central turnpike because it laid between the Plainfield pike (rt. 14) to the south and the Danielson Pike (rt. 6) to the north. It was said to be a favorite of cattle drivers from Ct. to bring their livestock to Providence. The road fell into disrepair by 1842, and the corporation’s charter lapsed. A local resident in Foster, near the western extremity, built a chicken coup across the road in the late 19th century halting easy progress. As a result the road became impassable from this point. (RIPC Foster 1982).
The Scituate Reservoir has covered part of the Central Pike since the mid 1920s, so I had to circumnavigate that part for a few miles and pick the road up on the other side. The road stretches for about 17 miles across RI before it abruptly ends at the state line on Cucumber Hill rd in western Foster. This road has some challenging climbs; short and steep!
Swamp Meadow Covered bridge was built in 1994 using traditional building techniques. It was burnt down by youthful arsonists soon after it was built, but was rebuilt again funded by local contributors.
I saw exactly one other cyclist on this ride; probably 50 motorcyclists.

Checked out the Canada Day festivities in town. My wife and daughter traveled to downtown using light rail transit: I rode a bicycle. Same deal going home with wife and daughter taking the light rail transit and daddy taking the long way home.
