+1 on the Jack Taylor. It looks great, I like the black, brown, and red color combination.

My daughter and I took a ride through the river valley after school (early dismissal)... we have matching bikes now and although she is still working on her off road skills her road skills are awesome.

Took the Schwinn Hurricane for a fast gravel ride. Cheap SIS works perfect. Vintage Conti 26 x 2.25 fat slicks at 45 psi are a hoot. Accidently ran over this little guy. At first thought it was a twig, turned back to check and found he was fine. Even posed for the pic.

That Jack is a thing of beauty, had to reply with quotes to keep the pics on this page so I can drool some more.

I take it you've moved to Phoenixville now, ya? I look forward to riding together at times. Send a PM if you want to plan something. Maybe we can talk on Sunday over in NJ?

I rode today, unexpectedly, about 75 kilometers on my unknown age Finnish city bike. Earlier this week I had replaced my old rear rack with a new one from Sweden after the sprung rat-trap and some of the welds broke on the original rack, and had to go for a test ride this morning. After coffee and a brief exploration of my new hometown, and seriously considering a new coffee machine at my neighborhood farmers/flea market, I just rode south through a small town called Häljarp.

I saw these horses near a stream on my way out of town, and stopped again on my way back in. This is the only picture I took the whole trip. It was a good morning despite the clouds and fog. Trip was pretty aggressive for a guy wearing khakis who had no idea where he was going.

Holiday, the bike and the PA countryside make me jealous and a little homesick!

Thanks for the compliments fellas. And yes, I'm back in Phoenixville, at least for a while. I'd definitely be up for some rides, but unfortunately I won't be able to make Steve's ride in NJ tomorrow as I have way to much going on.

Maybe we can plan a Delaware Valley Ride this fall sometime.

Rode the Mora Bike Tour today. Did the longer 50 mile loop option. Relatively flat, but a bit windy. The roads were surprisingly smooth for a rural area. Some of the Amish farms meant a few equine related obstacles on the roads though. The ride was based from the Vasaloppet ski center (the finish line for ski race in winter). A great facility, with a nice wax room.

I signed up for the Mora Classic Series, which is four seasons of local Mora flavor. A canoe race in the Spring, a half marathon in the Summer, the Mora Bike Tour (50mi route), and the Vasaloppet (35k+ routes) in the Winter. Should be lots of central-Minnesota fun.

The ski facility

Typical farm scenery along the way. The area seems like it is the northern edge of usable farmland for central Minnesota.

I got up there and on the ride early, earlier than some of the Lion's Club volunteers showed up at the stops. It was self service here.

A group of thirteen of us did that similar route in June. It was beautiful and other than the wind, a relatively easy route.

As for growing crops north of Mora, it is challenging.

Sandy soil, lakes, swamps, rocks or woods make it tough on the farmers.

I was sort of trotting around town- I was going to hit the cemetery where my Mother In Law is buried, while crossing some RR tracks that run diagonally to the road- my tire totally got caught and I went down. Face first, on the road, in front of traffic. I had a Myrricle Mirror on, and it saved my bike from hitting the ground- snapped off the mirror arm. Aside from a little ding in the paint and a couple of small scratches on a brake lever- it's fine. I'm old and sore right now. The one day that I wasn't wearing gloves...

From 10 days ago. It took me a while to get this prep'ed. 10 min 19sec. I wish it were smoother. Handlebar camera mounts bounce around quite a bit. Enjoy!

Descent of Cadillac Mountain.

This file is 70Mb so it takes a while to download.

I did a loop around the Ft. Bragg training area this morning on the Paramount. Rolling hills the entire 49 mile route. Short, steep climbs one after the other but you can blast down them at 30+. A couple of roads were closed for training so it turned into a 64 mile ride. Averaged 18.02mph, about the same as on my 2011 Focus that weighs four lbs less and has 500 gears. Best of all I blew by a guy on a tri bike who looked like the 5mph headwind was about to kill him, and he was probably 20 years younger than me

Thanks P! I'm quite OK- embarrassed and freaked me out. I've gone over those tracks a hundred times, I just went at the wrong angle and the earlier rain made things *just* slippery enough. I'm going to be sore for a few days. Pain is just weakness leaving the body...

GB sorry to hear of your fall, happy that it wasn't too serious. Get well. Pain may be weakness leaving but it still hurts.

We did 50 miles on the tandem today.

Lots of pictures today. I decided to bike to and on Lummi Island, which meant I got to ride a ferry. Along the way I found one of the coolest gravel roads which circled some sort of giant salmon enclosure. This meant that for a mile or so I was biking on a strip of gravel with wonderful blue water on either side. Lummi Island was beautiful, of course. Total mileage was about 59.4, which is maddeningly close to breaking my all time record, which was 60. However, I did that 60 mile ride when I was 18 (35 now), and today's ride had 1400 feet of climbing, which I doubt I could have done way back then. Small potatoes for many riders, but a pretty huge accomplishment for me.

About 4.5 miles into today's ride had a little tire trouble. A $5 bill in the sidewall let me limp home OK. Once home I grabbed the MTB and did about 5 miles of trails. Less mileage than I'd hoped for with my allotted time, but not a total loss. Anyone want to buy a slightly used 27 inch Pasela TG?
