Where'd You Ride Today? (New & Improved)

Finally got out today after a stress filled week of lawyers, house closings and moving. I live about 20 miles north of where I used to live. I took some familiar roads and then hit some roads I've never been on. Went about 30 miles on the 83 Trek. I didn't take any pictures today, but had a nice ride anyway.

Finished the Bike MS Cycle to the Shore - 83 miles from Daytona Beach back to Ponte Vedra, with 1500 other riders. Was/is a great event. Well organized and supported, great scenery - lots of fun!

The up video would have been about 45 min but that would include three stops for photos, on at that last overlook on the right going down, where the panorama first opens up in the right-hand turn near the top, and lastly at the Blue Hill Overlook on the right near the top just as the banjo first kicks in. It would have been boring, just lots of heavy breathing.

Did 30 miles around the bay today on the freshly restored Peugeot. The front hub was in need of adjustment, but I just tightened the quick release a bit and rode home. Here's a crappy picture.

Visiting my son in Seattle. Rode from Ballard over to Magnuson Park on the Burke-Gillman Trail. It's very nice, and I even had the excitement of a University of Washington football game on the route.
The picture is from the Freemont neighborhood, where the trail runs alongside the Ship Canal - connecting Lake Washington to the Puget Sound, via the Ballard Locks. Very cool territory!
I rode a Fuji Monterey, my west coast bike, which seems to weigh about 40 pounds. I can handle that, since the bike in in good tune, but I sure do miss the Brooks saddles I use at home!

Jim, I am in awe(and envy) that you and the Mrs. are tackling these huge rides on your tandem. I can only hope...
I have a few rides to show, but I'll just go with tonight for now. My daughter started youth group today. I get a couple hours of free time after dropping her off.

Today's commute was interesting and different. One thing about working for a company making things that operate in environments that can go boom is they can order a random drug test. I got such a summons. So not only did I get to ride my bike to and from the office, I got to do an additional 10 mile round trip from Woburn to Wilmington. Total of 40 miles today. On this vintage machine, 1972 Peugeot UO8 which I bought new and have upgraded quite a bit:
It was humid and moderately warm to start the day, By midday (actually 1PM) when I rode off to Wilmington the sun was bright, the air dry and cool, and the wind strong. Same for the commute home, except it was cooler, almost but not quite chilly.
If I didn't have a bunch of other good bikes I could be perfectly happy riding this one all the time (though it wouldn't be my choice for a hilly century!) I could lighten this further by removing the rack, lights, and generator, but I keep the lights for just such a use as commuting when the sun is low. The old Pug is going to see a lot more use this fall.

Just the normal 20 mile lunch ride to alleviate work stress. Took the Cino PX10 but equipped with tubular. Man, what a great riding bike! I had to have been needing the ride as it was done in barely over an hour. That pace doesn't happen very often but I sure enjoy it when it does. No photos - was riding too hard

Took the day off at the end of a too busy work week that had me off the bike since Monday evening. Completed an 84 mile trip along the Mississippi River south from my house, then up along a trout stream, then back home in a not so straightforward way. The wind constantly picked up from the south along the way, which was good since I headed straight into it for the first part. Made the ride back very nice.
Some pics - including the usual bike photo spot from that route.

EPO? The only thing I'm on is email.
Nice pics! That looks like great country to be riding around. I see you have some fall colors starting too.

@Sir_Name, I think I recognize the area. Are you near Branford?

Good eye, @noglider. Yes, I'll be moving near Branford end of fall. For now I'm here every other weekend or so. Pics above are taken from Sachem Head and I believe the Thimble Islands. Great riding in this area. RT 146 is fantastic.

Well, not exactly today...but yesterday I rode the Lighthouse Century in San Luis Obispo. Started at Morro Bay HS, north on 1 then up 46 to Templeton, and then back down to 1, up to Cambria and beyond...where we hit a 25mph headwind for the last 10 miles out...finally to return back to Morro Bay HS with a tailwind the whole way (nice way to finish). According to my Garmin it was 5868 ft of climbing. Weather was beautiful. Riders were friendly. Food was great. Couldn't ask for a better day...well I could have done without the headwind.

Right, @Sir_Name, Thimble Islands. I had forgotten the name. I was there many summers ago. Fun! My mother and her husband had a place on the Sound in Branford for weekends. It was heaven on earth.

Noodled around the Upper and Lower Snoqualmie Valleys this morning.
Flowers in abundance.
Riding along the river road to Carnation, I passed by this sign bearing great news.
It pretty much guarantees the river road, a popular route for cyclists, will remain quiet and scenic as well as safe from now on.

Today is an off day for me, but yesterday was interesting. My son is in the marching band in high school. His school hosts a marching band contest every year. We had 20 bands competing yesterday, and I was one of the vonunteers (just your average involved parent). It takes a ton of work and large group of people to make one these things happen. I volunteered to lead the band buses and trucks from the check in gate to their set up areas. It's a large college like campus so it's a decent distance from the gate to where they'll unload and set up. I took my Raleigh Grand Prix to lead them around with.
Most of the bands, including ours have golf carts and/or gators they use the shuttle all the equipment back and forth to the stadium. Being the host band, parents will bring atv's and trailers to help those bands that are not self sufficient enough to have all that stuff. I was able to move around the campus faster and easier on the bike than all the buggies that were there. Fellow band parents in gators (or some other side by side) would ask me to check on something because I was able to get there and back quicker.
Turned out to be a fun day. I wish I had taken my garmin to see how many miles I actually logged.

Did about 35 miles of gravel around Welch Village today. It was a beautiful day. Lots of people were riding the paved Cannon Valley trail, the parking lot was packed. I was content with 35 miles having led my spin class in the morning. That's fun too, but not nearly as scenic. A couple pics.

Youth group has begun again for my oldest kid, so Sunday night riding is a go now. Usually good for a couple hours, tonight was a quick ride to Everett.
