I rode a mountain bike for the first time today. It is an understatement to say they are a much different ride than road bikes. I rode over to Minnehaha Park, then on to Fort Snelling then to Crosby Park. Here is a picture of my '89 Haro Extreme that I picked up about 3 months ago parked at the front doors of the Fort Snelling stockade.

Fantastic early autumn photos, everyone! (and some sharp looking rides ) Love the range of vistas and views.
No cows for me this week, just an oldie but a goodie - catching the last of the weekend sun around the Stanley Park seawall in Vancouver.
And then I think this one is my favourite, with the view of Siwash Rock. Sun is setting so early now. I think this was takena around ten to 7.

Trying to post from my phone. Not easy. I guess I'll have to wrestle my wife for the ipad. If no more pics show up, I lost ...

Wow, there's a lot of awesome pics here lately!
Rode up Mt. Baker with Bob Freeman and Jerry Nelson (a freaking genetic mutant, I swear. 72 years old and he simply smoked Bob and I) Sunday. Never had such an internal struggle with getting to the top/stopping and waiting for them to catch me on the downhill. Seriously. But I dug deeper than I've ever had to and reached the summit at Artist's Point. Worth the effort, of course.
Bob near the Excelsior Trail turnoff:
One of the 6% sections - Bob says the upper stuff is more like 8/9%:
The Davidson leaning against the MBSA sign about halfway up:
Looking back into the valley:
Above the Resort/chair lift now and into the final 3 miles to Artist's Point:
Mt. Shuksan:
Success! After quite an effort (mental as well as physical) I gain the top. Take that!
Mt. Baker:
Btw, I've been up to Baker before - and even did part of this road on my bike - but that was way back in 2003 and 2004 when I took part in Ski to Sea. We started here - the Mt. Baker DOT buildings - and headed downhill for the road bike portion. But I'd never ridden up, and never been all the way to the summit no matter the conveyance. We stopped here in the sunlight on the way down because we needed a few minutes to warm up!
My reward:
Over in scozim's neck of the woods next Saturday for the Manastash Metric Century.

I get to contribute something of interest to this thread. Not today, but on Sunday:

Rode my Trek to watch the Men's Elite race in the UCI Worlds today. Big crowds, lots of nice bikes all over the place and a great show. Yay! Photo is of the Saturday race.
Also rode there on Friday for the Junior Men's and Women's races (drove with my wife on a rain-threatening Saturday to watch the Women's Elite race). I'd begin at the western end of the course loop and proceed along the route in reverse, through downtown and east to the killer Libby Hill climb, then work my way back west.

Great pics, everyone!
@DrilliumDude, those PNW mountains do look intimidating. Congrats on making it to the top of Artist's Point.
Forgive me for posting the following a day late. I started on my LOOK yesterday but only got about 1.5-miles before my FD snapped off as I tried to shift into the big ring. It reminded me of the thread with examples of broken handlebars which broke in between rides. My FD made it through the last ride without any obvious indications of problems, but gave out immediately during yesterday's ride as soon as I touched the FD shifter. Regretfully the rear wheel kicked the FD into the chain stay and caused a little paint chip. Could have been worse, I suppose...
So then I walked back home and picked up bike #2 for an abbreviated trip into the Berkeley hills.
Nothing wrong with this FD:
This last photo is from Grizzley Peak Blvd. looking down the top of the Marin Ave. climb, a ridiculously steep road that was originally built for a funicular railway (cable-pulled tram). The lowest block starts off at a merciful 13% grade but the upper blocks are in the 20-24% grade range. Even by car, many locals avoid this road, especially in the rain. Limited by old-school gearing, I always go the less steep way around.

Great Mt Baker area shots DD! I was up there camping about 5 years ago, what an incredibly beautiful area...and damn steep roads!

Man, I have never seen Artist Point look so dry, DD! It just illustrates how dry this summer was. Wow
I rode on Sunday after putting in a few hours at the office in Bellevue in the Morning before the fog lifted. I rode into Seattle and took the ferry over to Bainbridge Island
I stopped in Classic Bicycles in Winslow and bought some new long fingered gloves. My old ones were threadbare and it’s always great to stop into this shop and have a look around anyways.
I rode the “Chilly Hilly” route which is rather beautiful
Surprisingly, I didn’t see many riders. Just these two that I passed by Frog Rock
I took a different route back to Bellevue on my return, noodling around old neighborhoods exploring side streets and narrow lanes. A real nice Sunday Ride…

Met up with gugie and his friend Phil this afternoon on their 8 day tour of Washington. Rode with them out of town and south in the Yakima River Canyon before I had to turn back and finish work for the day. Always fun to met another BF C&V member.
Gugie's beatiful 650b Raleigh Competition
And a Gugie action shot
One of the longest trains I've seen in the canyon in awhile:
And we were treated to some desert Bighorn sheep up on the hill at one point:

Vonruden, I'll put something together and PM you. Gotta figure where to have you start and finish. Maybe the Wawa at Four-Mile Circle, junction of SR 70 and SR 72.

Snohomish to Bryant and back on the Centennial Trial yesterday. 50 miles. All ready for Saturday's Manastash Metric Century in Ellensburg.
Starting point:
Not the only one out enjoying our early-Fall weather:
Scozim's got his vintage road grader, I've got this vintage steam shovel
A bit different rider POV shot:
Blue sky, green trees and grass - gorgeous
Lake Cassidy and vintage Davidson
Saw three of these guys sunning on the trail:
Shadow-rider:
Turnaround point:
Pretty cool day. I ended up helping Jocelyn, a girl coming back from an overnight camping ride up to Bellingham, on the trail. She'd damaged her rear rack when she went through a trail-bollard and her ground tarp caught one of the bollards. After 30 minutes we got everything back to normal and went our separate ways - but not before I suggested she get down to Recycled Cycles to get some maintenance done! Wow, I couldn't begin to count the issues with that bike - and still find it hard to believe she got to Bellingham riding it.
Later on during the return leg, I met up with Mark who was intrigued by my old rig. We rode about 15 miles of the return together, kinda pushing each other to Snohomish. That was fun!
Once the ride was over and I was loading back up in Snohomish, who should drive up and say howdy but RogerM and his son Thomas. They were heading home after soccer practice. It was nice to quickly catch up with both for a little bit before we all had to go our separate ways.
