No pics here. Still doing assorted test rides on my newly completed DX-6000. It's holding out well. I'm incredibly pleased with the bike. I wasn't out for much today, about 35 minutes - 8 miles or so. I'm having a hard time getting used to clipless. Well... my thighs are.
My area mainly consists of country. Though I swear the Zebulon area is uphills BOTH ways!
Anyways. First post on this particular thread. Wish I lived in some of the places you guys do.

I started out early on the modern bike to meet my usual Saturday group of 50-somethings for a good 50-70 miler. It was kind of foggy, and there was a little moisture collecting on my glasses, but I couldn't decide if I was better off with them or without them.

I was about 2 miles from home when I felt the rear tire going soft. I started to pull to the curb to fix it, but through the foggy glasses I didn't see that the concrete gutter had risen about 1 1/2" above the roadway. The raised lip grabbed my front wheel & I was dumped to the right. I was far enough to the right that I cleared the curb with my body & fell onto the muddy grass, hitting my back & shoulder on one of those big metal telephone switch boxes. At least there was no damage to the bike.

I called my buddies to tell them not to wait, & that I would try to catch up at the first stop. I changed tubes, pumped the tire as hard as I could with the worthless mini pump, and continued on.

Two miles later I felt the familiar thump of the rear tire going flat. I swear I thoroughly checked the tire when I changed it, so I must have left a punctured tube in the bag from last year, or missed a hole when I patched it.

Now my group is long gone, I'm riding on my last spare tube, I'm cold, wet from fog, sore from the fall and PO'd, so I headed for home. I puttered around my garage for a while until the sun came out, took down my Univega Gran Premio fixed gear, and found the rear tire flat from the last ride.

It just wasn't turning out to be a good day for a ride. I decided to spend a few hours in the garage and finish building the hanging racks for the bikes. After a lunch break and a few errands, I finished the project, hung up the bikes and was just about ready to relax, but at the last minute I took the Serotta off the rack and headed out for a quick 20 miler before dark. I was almost home when I clipped a pedal on a turn, hard enough that I twisted the seatpost slightly in the frame in order to save it. Geez! I'll bet I haven't clipped a pedal in 25 years, and this was a turn I've ridden countless times!

Final count:
2 flats on the road
1 stupid crash
1 flat in the garage
1 near-crash
28 total miles
0 pictures, thank goodness.

I can't wait to ride tomorrow. It's got to be better than today.

Dang man.. sounds like you need(ed) a hug or a beer or something. Hey, atleast you get to ride this weekend, I'm spending the weekend with my girlfriend and don't get to. Not that I'm complaining about spending time with her.
Hope you feel better man. Take it a little slower tomorrow.

For perspective: it was about 8 degrees F here in southeastern Michigan lately, with hard-packed snow or ice or road-salted slush over the pavement. Not your average California or Carolina bicycling weather. So I'd say you still did all right.

Took another spin with Bikingshearer today - guess we're going steady or something.

Anyway - a nice easy 38 mile ride that left me pretty gassed as I'm at the tail end of a cold, but the weather really busted out nice this weekend so I just couldn't stay indoors any longer.

Towards the end of the ride we came across the car pictured below in a local parking lot. There are a fair amount of 911's in this paticular town, and I'm a fan of the marquee. But, I rarely see current targa's, and I've never seen this color before. Sure wish it were mine, or that I could even afford it!

Check it out - a very clean 997 4S Targa in a very beautiful metallic green color, with chocolate brown leather interior:

Beauty of a Targa, that is a nice color and something you don't see every day for sure.

Yesterday's ride was on my Gazelle AB-Frame. My usual Saturday ride with my club, we went out near the house I'm buying in Allen, then out through Lucus and up into McKinney before heading back down through Frisco and into Plano again.

Today's ride will have me on the same bike, this one headed south down to the West End of Dallas.

Well, didn't make it all the way down to the West End today. Turned around about mid-way with a few others who decided to cut the ride short. My legs weren't feeling another 12mi into the head wind we were facing. A quick photo of me with the Gazelle AB-Frame while I was pealing off one layer at a quick rest stop on the way home:

btw: departure temp: 49 degrees. By the time I got home, mid 50's.

No pictures, but I rode in Paradise Valley yesterday, doing repeats up Mummy Mtn. I saw an Enzo Ferrari there.

Today it was the Carefree Foothills, beautiful day!

This one is the good, the bad, and the ugly. I went for my first significant road ride of 2009 today. Twenty-three miles, not real far, but enough and it was on my Bianchi. I really love that steel ride. That's the good. It's clear that I've lost a lot of my conditioning from last year, that's the bad. Then I got dropped by some joker in a full kit with colors matching his newer road bike. I watched him struggle up a hill and I knew, I just knew if this was last September I'd have dropped him like a bad habit. But I'm not in good shape. That's the ugly.
I've got to get in better shape.

Ditto. I'm gonna try and do my best to be serious this year.
I REALLY wish I could've gone riding today. It felt so good out.

Got in 39 miles out and back today with a 2.5 mile climb in the middle of it before turning around. I felt amazingly strong even with the front flat thanks to a goat head thorn about 15 miles in. I guess the extra trainer work and bike shop spinning class has made a difference over the winter. Temps were 39F with no wind - so it was a good day.

I'm still not up to getting in the same miles as you guys, but I'm getting there.
15.5 miles today. It was mid 60's with a light wind. Felt great through most of the ride up until about 5 miles from home when my left calf felt like it was cramping. And with that made me realize that my butt hurt from the saddle (really need to get some shorts... gonna do that Wednesday). So I took it easy on the ride home moving back and forth between the big and little chainring, but spending more time in the little for that part. I need to do more rides like this. It was fun, aside from almost getting hit by a school bus...
Ah well. Hoping by the end of the month to be able to do 20+ milers easily.

Last week was too crummy to ride at all, and now we have 70's forecast for the next week.

Windy, windy, windy - about 15mph tailwind going out and 20mph headwind coming home. It's been the windiest Fall and Winter I can remember, and we're now in an "Exceptional Drought" to boot.

Headwind was right into my face on this hill coming home, and didn't get masked by the hill at all! Heart rate went to 169 and stayed there all the way up. At least I have a new baseline to work with.

Rode the 1985 Raleigh Team USA which is a really pleasant bike.
Ouch man... that hurts just looking at it. Glad you did it though, I'd feel purty proud of myself after that. And then want to pass out.

After Saturday's 4-F ride - fog, freezing, flat tires and falling, I needed a nice, simple Sunday ride to clear my head. After church, I grabbed the Colin Laing track bike and headed out the front door. At first I thought this was going to be another fiasco when realized I was wearing my SPD shoes and the Laing had Look pedals, but after a quick change I rolled out into a perfect 60° afternoon.

My route started with about 6 miles of upscale suburbs and business parks, then thru a city park & onto the M.U.T. out into the country for a 26-mile round trip. Even though this is a ride I do several times a month and is usually just routine, there is something cleansing about getting back in the saddle after a bad ride the day before, and riding "naked," with fixed gear to keep it simple, no speedometer or heart rate monitor to enslave me, a simple solid color jersey with no logos or cartoonish graphics, and no riding partners to make it competitive. As an added bonus, I started out during the pregame show for the "Big Game," so the streets and M.U.T. were unusually quiet, and got back 10 minutes before kickoff.

Took the Jack Taylor out for its first longer ride, it performed like a champ. Rode with a friend across the golden gate bridge, up and over Camino Alto, and then Paradise Loop. ~45 miles at a leasurely brisk pace. Climbed admirably for a ~27 pound bike, I got to the top of Camino Alto well before my friend did on his Ultegra SL equipped Mikkelsen, and rocketed through the descents. Fun!

I picked up a 96 GF Hoo Koo E Koo that needed a fork. I added a Manitou Magnum R I picked up off of CL. This bike is unique because its steel. I'd like to see if I can get a softer ride out of this frame without sacrificing speed. Today I took it out to Harris Lake county park to try it out on the single track MTB trail. I wanted to compare it to my 05 Specialized Rockhopper. Well, long story short, the Rockhopper gets to keep its day job. The old geometry of the GF made riding it awkward. The fork leaked like a siv, but performed very well so that's not the problem. Everywhere I turned the bike was just not predictable like the Rockhopper. I'm not the fastest MTBer, in fact I'm really slow. But I would have passed me if I was on the Rockhopper! The fall off in speed was very noticable. Next I'm going to try the GF on a MUP. If it can't out perform the 01' Trek 4500 I'm currently riding on MUPs, then its CL listing time for the GF. I hope not because it's the last steel Hoo Koo E Koo GF made.

I did 40 miles today, including some serious climbing in the Marin headlands. Man, am I outta shape!

This was a training ride getting ready for the ride to L.A. in early June. It was in the fifties here, so I dug out my old Schwinn wool jersey. It still fits! ... sort of.

Saturday, up on Skyline overlooking the SF Bay, Oakland, SF, and the various bridges. Sunday, the 1st "B&B Slowpoke Ride" that Bikingshearer (and I, sort of) hosted fro the NorCal BF group.

About 50-60 miles total, and then on Monday morning an hour with the Spin-Kittens at the local gym. Always worth the price of admission, but no cameras allowed.

Saturday, a nice vista after coughing up a lung crawling up Pinehurst:

New bottle cages!:

Sunday, an abandoned bike leaning against a tree:

Where'd I ride today?
Work.
The ride in was fine, dark, felt like I was getting pushed along by a school bus that refused to pass me while I was going up a hill... But, otherwise good. It was weird all day having my bike there, really distracting honestly.
Anyways...
9 hours later, I hop on and head home.
Problem is, is that it's been STUPID windy today. The order of my winds are as such.
None (in parking lot), Headwind, crosswind, tailwind (short), crosswind, headwind (Up a hill), headwind (down a hill), headwind (up a hill), HEAVY crosswind, headwind, crosswind, headwind, EXTREMELY HARD headwind, crosswind, and then I was home.
The ride in took 15 minutes. The ride home took 30.
Ugh... needless to say that was the hardest 4 miles I've done... ever.

Wednesday was the first day in nearly a week that we had no threat of rain in central California, so I took the day off and drove to Merced. Never touched my bike, though, and no C & V bikes in sight.

Lots of buzz there about two guys named Lance and Levi, though. That's them right behind the car. Definitely worth a day off from riding.

Got in 21 miles today. Which means I reached my goal for one ride this month. Wasn't an easy ride though. Lot of wind, but some good tailwinds so it wasn't all bad. It was kind of a lap thing just to make it reasonable.
My one ride goal for March is 40 miles. I'm trying to up my mileage by 20 a month. Hopefully in July I'll do my first century.

No photos here, but I took my 1972 Gitane TdF out for a 35 mile late afternoon/twilight ride today, going from my house in Fort Worth along the Trinity Trails to the Stockyards, out to Benbrook lake and back. The wind was a pain, with Northerly gusts up to about 30 MPH, but in all it was a good ride. This is the first week I've broken the 100 mile total mark in over a year, and most of the mileage has been on the TdF. This week has also been bit of a shakedown test to see if the TdF might work for the 100K version of the Salado ride in late March (Smokin' Spokes)...I'm pretty well convinced it will do just fine for pretty much any ride I can last through.

It is still cold up in Ohio, but I managed to get 14 miles in going around some of the streets and sub-divisions near my house. It was upper 30's so I would have road more, but a nice cold rain started which seemed like a clear signal to go inside.

I dream of the warmth of a sunny 40-50 degree day and doing some real miles.

Normally my rides aren't all that long or interesting, but tonight was a little different. I decided to take my diamond back from my house to walmart to get some some stuff. Normally I drive, but there's too much traffic on Saturdays. It's a fairly easy 7 miles there and 7 miles back. The only problem is that the sidewalks are horrid and around here people like to scream obscene stuff at cyclists for some reason. That, plus the fact that it was 31 degrees Fahrenheit when I left, and the wind made it a little closer to feeling like 20. My coat was in the washer so all I had was a jacket. Anyway, after tolerating annoying people and the cold I finally got my groceries and went by Taco Bell on the way home. When I went in I had several people asking me why I was riding when it was cold and windy, and why I was eating fast food. Evidently they thought I should be eating some strict diet and only riding when the weather was absolutely perfect. I just told them 'because I feel like it', ate my food, and went home.

Then, despite it being completely dark outside with the temperature rapidly falling, I decided to take a quick test ride on my raleigh grand prix. After about a mile I thought I should turn around and head back, but I decided to keep going. After going another 5 miles my front tube blew out. I put in my spare and walked it to a nearby gas station to air it up. Then I rode it another mile or so down the road when the chain decided to break. So I had my friend come get me. I didn't realize how cold it was while riding, but just standing there about froze me.

Anyway, it was a rather interesting night. It wasn't all that good, but like I say, it was interesting. But now I'm worn out and cold, so I'm going to sleep.
