Middletown Turnaround
I woke early and hit the road by 6:00 AM with a ride to Middletown MD and beyond if it wasn't too humid and the bike seemed to be working OK. Anyway, it was just too warm for me to try to go any further into the hills, so I decided to head back home after breakfast at Dempsey's Diner in Middletown. The total ride was 29 miles with 1613 feet of climb along the way. I didn't get off the bike even once, despite encountering one of the largest hills I can ever remember riding on a bicycle. It was not easy, but I did it!

Went to the very top of Whittier Narrows Dam, 50 feet of gain at the end of my turn around point 7.14 miles from my house using the Rio Hondo Trail. Wind picked up on the return leg, 2 to 4 mph. 14.28 miles in less than an hour. I left before the crack of noon after breakfast and watching the TDF and F1.

Really nice pictures, photogravity.
I rode up and down the block this evening, after replacing a spoke in my rear wheel. The repair worked out well. I was tempted to ride today, but somehow, wisdom prevailed. I saw my thermometer hit 101F today.
I rarely use AC, but I'm using it right now, not just for comfort but for my health.

Stay cool Tom! It's currently 108 F here this evening. I may try a night ride via Soutpawboston and Doohickie, to get around the heat and sun. It's been crazy hot this season.
Maybe the dawn ride is the only solution.

Here's some happy snaps from today, forgive the non CV content. 
At least there's a Velo Orange stem on there that kinda looks like a quill stem.
I pulled this carbon of the shelf where it's sat for over a year and reassembled it with the groupo and wheels that I just had on my steel Olympia just to remember what carbon is like and well I didn't like it very much, honestly I thought the BB was less stiff and the ride was harsh and I just couldn't get the feeling of rolling as fast but that could be because I forgot to make some fresh veggie juice before I left home. Yep that must be it.
So this one's going on flebay and the Olympia is the new go fast bike
I rode 75km's in all seriously hilly terrain.
A rare straight road.

You know the leg, Rob, into the wind, head down, watching the sweat from various places spatter the pavement. Scenery shmenery, just get me home....Straight through Gold Rock, then the back way into Red Oak, where I blew a raspberry at your house as we went by....
Of course, I'm going again today, with ankle weights. Got to get ready for Dairyland Dare.
I have learned a lesson on bibs...when they're fully soaked, they tend to bind in uncomfy places....

Just a quick ride up the lake this morning with the ladyfriend. Amazing what $500 (I have about $250 in each bike) can get you if you're patient and persistent. I love this pair, bought them to flip, but I can't do it [yet].

Our ride started with a climb up Sunrise.
A beautiful day in the mountains, here I am near Sunrise
Back down, then up and over Cayuse pass to Stevens Canyon and our turn around point at Paradise.
We met up with some other friends who took the direct route to Paradise. We descended together down Stevens Canyon.
Eddy takes a break before the last comb of the day: Cayuse Pass.
The climb up Cayuse is hot and every now and the you get relief as you pass by waterfalls which generate their own cool, damp microclimates. Ahhhhh!
The work is done at the top of Cayuse then a fast decent back to our car at the park entrance.
About 11000 ft of climbing in 110 miles for the day.

50 miles on the Cinelli today. sunny in the low 80s. (Cranston-Johnston-Scituate-Foster-Scituate-Cranston) I went down a rural road in Johnston RI and all of a sudden I saw a steady stream of triathletes headed towards me! Apparently today was Ironman RI. The first riders I saw had carbon fiber Star Trek bikes with black carbon disc wheels, those time trial tear drop shaped helmets and all sorts of craziness. I was going out for a steady uphill route on a remote, rural road that I like to train on and all of these riders were screaming(not literally) down hill at me. A woman on folding chair in front of her house said, "Look at this guy! He's going the opposite way! He's going uphill! Tough guy!" I nodded sheepishly to her and kept pedaling.
I wish I had stopped earlier to take some pictures. By the time I crested this long gradual climb, all of the superhero looking riders were long gone. I tried to snap a halfway decent pic of some of the riders passing me, but didn't get anything worthy of posting. At this point most of the riders looked like normal people who were more participants then actual contenders.
I looked up the race online when I came home and the cycle section was 56 miles long through rural RI. It was kind of cool that a few of the roads I ride on frequently were chosen for this part of the race. (None of the dirt ones though.)

The Scituate reservoir buried part of this road underwater back in the 1920s. I rode it to where it ends east of the reservoir and then rode around to where it started again on the other side. It turns to dirt about 15 miles west of where I took the previous pic.
I'm stretching one tubular for the De Rosa and have another tire on order for a spare, so hopefully the De Rosa will be rolling in a week or so. I can't wait!

Today was my local bike clubs annual Kal Tour and I did the metric century ride on my new Centurion Semi Pro. Adding in the additional miles from my house to the start/finish point and back, I rode just under 80 miles.
My friend Gordy rode the century with me on his own C&V bike. Back in the early 80's he had a local bike shop custom make him a 531 frame.The name on the bike is builder's name, P G Wells.
Here are a few shots of our bikes and a couple others that I was able to take before my cell phone's battery died.

I had the day off from work and the weather was absolutely gorgeous, low 80s, sunny, low humidity, so I banged out a century! Not emphatic at 101 miles, but a century nevertheless. I went deeper into CT than usual and had a great time. Added Plainfield-Canterbury-Westminster-Scotland-Sprague-Lisbon-Jewett City and Griswold to my usual CT stops.
I got as far west as Scotland. Pretty hilly country. Here is the birthplace of Samuel Huntington, signer of Declaration of Independence and Governor of Connecticut.

I was in the northern(Minneapolis) suburbs today so I took a few spins around Elm Creek Park. Nice trail. Almost hit a deer that was standing in the trail. I yelled and it slooowly sauntered back into the woods.
