Today was so nice that Sharon insisted we go out again. 36.5 miles mostly on roads we'd not ridden before even though it was in an area we ride regularly. No pics today. It was a day for riding, with a short picnic of course. If you can't have a picnic, what's the point of riding?

I rode 44 today my De Rosa. It was beautiful at 65 and sunny. Stayed in RI, but I was spitting distance from CT.
Here are some pics from Moosup Valley, a little hamlet in Foster.

H.P. Lovecraft's maternal grandfather made his fortune here and then moved to Providence. Lovecraft lived here for a time as well.
Apparently there is some more alleged paranormal activity here in this part of Foster as well. Tucker Hollow and Ram Tail Rd are only about 5 miles away. Folks are very superstitious in Foster.

Finally took the camera with me today. We've had sustained 25-30 mph winds the past two days so it was an escape to the hills behind the homestead this afternoon. A little over two hours on my favorite climbing loop (with a good 2 mile downhill as a reward). It was a little depressing to get into the fire damage from last September. Pretty severe in places but fortunately it only took out the western edge of my loop which was as far as the fire advanced. In fact, the road I was on appears to have served as a fire break. New life is starting to spring forth and loggers are busy clearing the damaged trees again.
I knew I was bound to get into fire damage as I began climbing this hill and had scarred trees to the right. The road also had been graded which was new and means there will be a lot more traffic on it.
I was surprised to see the size of this stack of logs as I came around a corner
At least the views across the valley opened up a little

You can climb even more than going to Lion Rock out on these roads. The peak in the back of the one photo is between 6900 and 7000 ft elevation. The backside is the Mission Ridge ski resort. Some of that area by Lion Rock got hit pretty hard in the fire too.

Participated in the Monster Cookie Metric Century ride in Salem, Oregon yesterday. Represented vintage budget Fujis. Great ride except for the nasty headwind on the way back.

The Tom Cuthbertson Annual Ride
In the Coast Range of Central California between the Salinas Valley and the Pacific Ocean. A beautiful day with high temperatures in the mid eighties.
11 riders, 35 miles of gravel roads, 35 miles of pavement, 7,500 feet of climbing and a river crossing.
A beautiful lunch spot on the Arroyo Seco River.
I was happy for the triple chainrings on the "All-Day Bike."

Yesterday I did my usual 25+ mile round trip commute. Today I worked from home but got out for an hour and a half, including a stop at the gym. Then I rode over to the polls for a local primary, which is a form of political statement, I guess.

Nice weather.
Every time I ride this stretch of (abandoned) road, I think to myself "we put in a bike lane that doesn't go anywhere and nobody uses it ..."
Fortunately, in our town they do go somewhere and people use them, so I've no complaints.

I see the orthopedic on Friday (tomorrow). I should get a better idea then. It's already feeling better (in the splint) so I'm hoping for a good prognosis.
