I managed a quick 17 mile ride after work today. Temp is back to normal, around 24 degrees.





After the ride I installed a Huret Svelto rear derailleur. It looks like a million bucks, but it feels kind of flexy and flimsy in certain gear positions. I 'm not sure it is going to be durable enough for me. It might just be a cool looking paper weight for my desk. In addition, it's making me think twice about the possibility of a Jubilee purchase for one of my other bikes.

rode up napa valley today. picture perfect day in napa (admittedly, at least 3/4 of the year is a picture perfect day in the valley)

met at my special lady's house, sky was still overcast and temps were high 50s. (in her words, "freezing") as we got onto Silverado trail the sky started shining through, a few more miles and the only fog left was sticking to the tops of the hills in a decidedly picturesque way. And the mustard is already growing up a storm in the vineyards! If you haven't seen the napa valley vineyards when the mustard is in full bloom you are really missing out.

Anyways, a torturous thirty miles of this left us back at her house where she fed me copious amounts of chorizo eggs.

I did not stop for any scenic photos, sorry. the only photo was at our halfway point where I refueled on gourmet coffee and a four dollar almond croissant! The temperature at this point was probably high sixties.

Finally the rain, snow, fog and freezing temps stopped! I just went for a quick ride on the Ciocc around the neighborhood but it felt GREAT. The legs and lungs reminded me that I haven't ridden for a while but it was nice just to get out.

Snarf! I made some cake with blueberry muffin mix yesterday, & I just realized a bit ago, it's actually for my unscheduled 3 AM snack.

Unusually warm and dry yesterday. I was able to get 40 miles in on my fixed gear after work. Man that felt good..

24 miles in the cold. Around 25 degrees and windy.

I swapped the drive train to some cool old Huret parts. Club ft and svelto rear. I was able to get the svelto to work better today. I had to bend the cage a little. It still is a tad finicky, but works acceptably.







I feel really retro man.

First weekend in a long time that the trails were rideable.

The honorary grand daughter and I headed down to the canal entrance to watch a barge come through. The ol' Gary Fisher is over serviced and takes a while to shift cleanly! The h g d's bike rode beautifully but the gel seat was frozen solid!!! We threw a plastic bag over it and took off! Short story! Short ride!

Friday was my sons 6th Birthday. We went for a ride from Carnation to Snoqualmie falls, about 25 miles roundtrip. He planned on riding at least 6 miles under his own power.. I brought along anyhow.



He rode the first couple miles until it was "getting hard to pedal"(hillls..).




We had lunch at the Falls and enjoyed the weather for a bit, before heading back down.




He finished off his 6 miles on the return leg(downhill section go figure.)




We had a great adventure, and topped it off with a super Birthday dinner with the whole family.

I left early this morning to avoid any winter precipitation. (It still hasn't snowed) It was warmer at 35 degrees and gray. I got 39 miles in on the Dawes.

I went home and did some errands and then put in another 12 miles riding to Providence and back to meet one of my buddies for sushi.

I brought my Dawes to show off because I'm so proud of it and think it is so cool. My friend was not as impressed as I thought he would be with its kooky french parts and retro looks. He incredulously asked, "Is that a 10 speed?" I think the only part of my bike he appreciated were the lugs. I didn't take a pic of his bike today, but here is the frame when he got it last spring.



To each his own I guess.

That's some serious trailwork! I've built a lot of trails but never see anything like that. You guys building a new Appian Way? Or is that a hurricane-proof wet crossing?

Some very nice ride reports folks! This weekend we got lots of heavy rain. No riding, but we did need the rain. It's been the driest winter in history here.

I've really been wanting to get out and ride, but it's been a rainy weekend in San Diego. (I'm sure those of you who've been suffering through so much snow the last few months in the north east are breaking out the world's tiniest violins in sympathy... ). So this afternoon when I was out and noticed that there seemed to be a blue patch in the sky to the west, I chased it. Didn't have time to stop at home, so I didn't have anything C&V with me - just the folder I often keep in my trunk.

Not classic, not vintage... but just enough to let me ride today.

Happy Birthday to your son and great pictures! I may need to get me some shades like that so I can he half as cool as him.

Maybe a bike with gears would be a good present for his 7th Birthday. I think my son was about 6 when he got his first geared bike, but it took him a few months to figure out how to use them correctly.
