I did my first commute to my new job today, 14.1 miles to work, 14.9 miles home by a slightly different route. Temps in the lower 30's when I started, around 50 for the run home. Significant hills but no worse than the climb up from the Blackstone River on my previous commute. DeLorme Topo USA says the total climbing was nearly 800 ft each way.
When I arrived another employee who rides and with whom I'd spoken about commuting came out and said he was envious. (Hey, you can ride too!)

American Tobacco Trail, with my brother-in-law. His first long ride since Achilles replacement. His PT doc is also a certified bike fitter (whatever that means), triathlete, and rode on Duke's club teams. The RX was for as much of a Q-factor as possible, so I found some pedal spindle extensions and he said they made a great improvement. My impressions of the Trail are great, however, there was, of course, 3 or 4 sets of cyclists who think it was a speedway (with pedestrians, dogs, joggers, strollers, etc) and one kid on aero bars going as hard as he could. Great trail, 23 miles each way. 2 Cinelli Equipe Centurions....we actually saw some other steel bikes.

Nice pics, RT. That sounds like an interesting trail too. But no Ironman? (Ironmen?) I see a Cinelli and a bike with not enough spokes.

Sorry about your bike Tom, right after building it, yeesh...
Out last evening for my first after work 20 miler on the usual hill route. Really felt good to get the evening ride thing started back up. Saw a few dedicated folks on a variety of rides including a fat bike, 29er, vintage steel looking ride with fenders that I didn't get a good look at, and me on the Poprad. Of course, with that said, we're expecting snow.
Out last evening for my first after work 20 miler on the usual hill route. Really felt good to get the evening ride thing started back up. Great pics, everyone. otg, it's good to see you out riding. Your part of the world (Connectthedots) looks a lot like Massachusetts.
Sharon and I waited out the morning rain and dampness and finally got out for 30.5 miles on the tandem. It was supposed to turn sunny. Yeah, right. The temp started about 51degs. At one point the temp fell and the sky clouded over and threatened rain, but that's all the bluster it could muster.
First stop, Great Brook Farm State Forest. Still a bit of snow here and there.
Next stop, Chelmsford Center.
I guess they have some history here too.
Finally, the real reason to ride today! I asked the man how it could be black and pale at the same time. He tried to give me a serious answer.

Hmm, I'm not sure which pale, pasty fellow you are referring to! Lately I've been consuming, I mean, riding with (post-ride, of course) Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA. (Not their 60min stuff, which is fairly ordinary, IMHO.) This Black IPA was an experimet. It's okay but not quite my choice, more like a stout that isn't quite a stout, if you take my meaning. But it's good enough make typing difficult. That Dogfish Head 90 Min IPA is hard to beat. I've also been impressed with Steelhead Double IPA, by Mad River Brewery.

Hi Jim and Sharon, been a tough winter, really glad it's about over. Supposed to be nice tomorrow also, but I've got to replace my mailbox post (got taken out by a plow sometime in January). I hoping to get out after that is finished. Looks like you had a nice ride today, I like the "train wreck at ginger ale plaza" mural!

My friend Ty and I rode in an organized ride to raise money for the Oso mudslide victims. Long drive to get to the starting point for a ride that was simply an out n back on the Centennial Trail on a rather cold wet day but it was still worth it. It was for a good cause. I got a chance to ride with a good friend I hadn't ridden with since last year and along the way we ran into Roger M. Nice seeing you Roger! Congratulations for getting into RAMROD this year.
