Congratulations on 37 years Jim! Pretty neat how your wife and yourself are still enjoying adventures together! My wife is not too into cycling (especially not in her current state, being 7 months pregnant with our second child) but we are going camping for our 4th anniversary next weekend. Couples like you are inspiring to those like us!

I like that colorful bike and it looks like you have some very nice scenery around your area!

BF member photogravity showed up in town yesterday to pick up a bike from nlerner, so we did a ride with him today. Things didn't work out as planned because of an airline connection, but that's another story. So he borrowed my Gran Sport and we rode until about noon, 20 miles round trip on the Minuteman Bikeway. Then Sharon and I went out again into Concord and Carlisle for a total of 43.1. It was a great day.

Wow, you got out a lot this weekend Jim! Looks like you had fun with PG.

I managed to go for a 38 mile ride on the Dawes today in Johnston-Scituate-Smithfield. Great weather; sunny and about 80.
I finally switched my rear derailleur back to the Suntour VT luxe.



Although I loved the style and look of the huret svelto, it was a little finicky shifting. It chirped at me in certain gears, and I couldn't live with the static. The Suntour, well, it's perfect. Flawless shifting. Like a modern derailleur. The only reason I took it off initually was because it couldn't handle my winter abuse and seized up. A nice wd40 bath brought it back to normal.

As for that VGT-Luxe, it's maybe the most bulletproof RD ever made. Not quite the lightest but just superb.

It was an on-off rain and wind weekend, so needed to take advantage when I could. 50 on Friday evening, 25 yesterday morning, and 26 today. Along the way took photos of the women's race at the Stillwater leg of the Nature Valley Grand Prix. The hills are very steep and they climbed it quite quickly as compared to my usual pace up those same hills. I'd intended to do the "spectator" grand fondo in Menominee yesterday, but the weather was too iffy and wind too strong from the south to risk having to go 20 miles straight into a 40mph wind. So I pieced together 100 miles in smaller bits.

There are two things to note from the two pictures above.

1. The report of my death was an exaggeration. (That picture is notably unflattering.)
2. I smile when I eat.

Though I passed on a happy anniversary in person, I'll say it again: Happy 37th Anniversary!

Sorry about the pic but it's the only one I have with both my blue bikes. In any case, Sharon is, um, rather diminutive.

Smiling while eating is good. I was smiling too but my beard gets in the way.

As far as the new acquisition, I hope to be out the door on time tonight so I can take the Mercian on its first ride, well at least the first since it came into my possession.

Last Friday evening. Hammerheart Brewing Company, Lino Lakes, MN. It was an absolutely gorgeous Minnesota evening. Two Hokan Brown Ales made it even better, and riding home was much safer than driving.

As on most days I did my 30 mile commute. It was hot and humid. I'll probably skip tomorrow because of weather and fatigue, and skip Thursday because we have a gig that night.

I posted a thread in 50+ asking about leg fatigue. I've been running up at least 200 miles a week since DST started, sometimes more, including a metric on the tandem a week ago and century solo about a month ago. I've probably already run up 2000 miles this year. My weight is down to 160, once even below. Their consensus was that I overtraining. I don't think of it as training, just riding! But I won't argue. When my sweetie says I need more rest and more food, who am I to disagree?

Hi Jim, I picked up the Fuji over the winter, didn't really need it, but it was on the Providence Craigslist for quite a while, and I finally gave in. It's a nice, comfortable touring bike, a bit on the heavy side, but fits me nicely. You really have been racking up the miles this season!

Hi, Jim. I got the bike, a 1990 Stumpjumper, about a month ago and rebuilt it as a drop bar commuter. Wasn't happy with the paint job, though. It had a pretty poor maroon repaint covering the back half of the frame, so I had it powder coated. Only thing left from the original bike is the.headset. All other parts went to bikes I built up for my boys. I also had built up Alex rims with a shimano dynohub for front hub. It's a fabulous commuter. Eventually I'll be replacing the fd and rd with Cyclone M-II, my favorite.

Once we move back into the house and get settled (home fire mid February) I'll be able to get more miles in.

^ Looks like it was a great day in PDX. The Hardrock is sweet looking. Pristine, no wonder it gets attention and compliments.

Looks like you and I have pretty much the same idea as to what a drop-bar MTB tourer conversion should look like: barcons, Brooks saddle, even the color matches. Mine's a Shogun, though and hasn't got it's fenders yet. (It will by the time winter rolls around).

@Lascauxcaveman, Very pretty bike and, yes, very similar looking. I certainly prefer the looks of your lugged frame and crown fork, but I have no issues with how my stumpy rides.
