It was above freezing with little wind today, so I was happy to be outside riding. I changed up the gearing on the Poprad and this was a little shakedown run. Probably needs more tweaking on the gearing to be an ideal range, but its getting closer. Did 32 miles altogether today (16 miles riding, 16 miles skiing). The ski had much more climbing than the ride, so it's a good thing that was the morning workout. A couple pics from the ride.

Completely agree, it was a great day to be out. Thinking I should be out more often. This could be the winter that I finally cave and get a fatbike. I was looking closely at the steel framed Charge fattie earlier today. The Motos are probably a better deal though...

Very nice. I haven't owned a vintage kit in over a decade now (had a big Slingerland, 12/14/16/18/24). Yours would be my two pics for a C&V set. A round badge bop (sized) kit would be great.

We'd planned to take the tandem out today but decided not to for several reasons. Instead I took the Masi out for about 16 miles. I explored the urban routes from here to Medford, looking for commute alternatives, perhaps using the train. Temps were in the mid-30's degF. I'm trying to decide if I want to commute by bike tomorrow, since it is supposed to be about 19degF when I would be leaving the house.

Apparently I was following some famous footsteps (though I would have thought he was going the other direction). I'm sure he didn't have to deal with all those road signs.



Around the Armco to the left is the West Medford commuter train stop. While I was there the gates went down and a train came through. But what the...? It was an Amtrak train, not an MBTA commuter. Where would it be going in that direction, on the Lowell Line??? I didn't realize Amtrak ran anything in that direction. This calls for more research. Otherwise, it was a nice, quaint neighborhood RR crossing.



On the way back, crossing the Mystic River, the boundary between Arlington and Medford. It was sort of made famous by Dennis Lehane though IIRC the book (and movie) weren't located in this part of the metro area. It's been a while since I've seen or read either.



Finally, a moment of silence for those who perished on this day at Pearl Harbor in 1941. Even more importantly, a moment of recognition for everyone who have put themselves in harm's way to protect all of us of any nationality, any race, any creed.

The Lafayette Indiana area bike groups got together to ride in the Lafayette Christmas parade, which is the biggest one in Indiana. A crispy 36 degree day but sunny and not too windy. I grabbed this image before the parade, my 1950 Black Phantom parked next to the 'Boilermaker Special VII'. The official mascot of Purdue University.

Lunch time ride of 20 miles on the Trek 510 with a vibrating fender. That was frustrating as was the realization how much it hurts to try and regain the fitness lost over 5 weeks of no riding. Then you have to factor the additional layers which cause some more wind resistance just to stay warm. But, hey, the best part is it was a lunch time ride and I'm still riding in December on dry to damp roads. That's better than it normally is this time of year.

I've been sick for the last week or so, and haven't ridden since Thanksgiving (up until yesterday). I got out for a short after-dark ride last night, and another short ride today before the storm hits. Still feeling the crap though.

The recent freeze thaw cycles have made parts of the Lynn Valley Trail "squishy". Sort of like riding in a mixture of contact cement and wheel bearing grease. Although the temperature was around 40F it was cloudy and breezy. Still nice to be out on our very scenic trail. Riding my 95 Triumph Ravine with its recent PB Cascadia ATB fenders which did a great job of keeping the mud off me.

Last night, groups of protesters in Berkeley marched from campus to the I-80 freeway, which is about a mile from where I live. After hearing the helicopters and sirens for an hour, I decided to hop on my MTB and check it out. Took some really crappy photos. It's hard to take photos in the dark with a lot of flashing lights around.



Here's a look from the footbridge near University Ave. The freeway had been shut down for a couple hours at this point. Several hundred protesters tore down fences and climbed onto this major freeway (a major traffic corridor which feeds into the Bay Bridge). The protesters were off the freeway at this point, but the freeway still hadn't re-opened. You can see several people hanging out by their cars below.



Here some people had gathered at the bottom of the bridge, blocked by police (though I was able to get on from the other side).



One woman brazenly parked her car in front of the train tracks. People assembled there and Amtrak service was suspended. The sign reads "Bill this mess to Darren Wilson"



Quick trip through the decked out 4th Street shopping district.



Then, for those who know the area, I rode through aquatic park, where I managed to take a spill. Didn't have my full complement of lights, and I missed a curb. Went straight over the bars at about 15mph. As any right-minded steel aficionado would, the first thing I did was check the fork and the bottom side of the down tube for any creases. No damage except a little wobble to the front wheel, tore through one of the leather toe straps (@rhm, I've got an extra buckle for you). I was wearing a helmet, though I'm not sure it did any good. The only injury I sustained was a smack to the bridge of my nose front the front edge of the helmet, leaving me with two very subtle black eyes, but otherwise came out unscathed.

I took a quick 10 mile morning ride to Little Italy (and Albania) of the Bronx this morning on my day off. The temperature is hovering right around 32F with little wind so it was perfect.
P.S. I still cannot figure out why the pictures get flipped to the side when uploaded…

Thanks! I love that bike. 36-22. Barely enough for the type of terrain around here, but great on some of the tamer trails. I did 18 miles on it at Mount Laguna yesterday, with 1,600 feet of elevation gain. It was tough but awesome.
