Nothin' fancy, we tried out the Milford Bike path. Actually, not bad, for what it was. No potholes to dodge...

You might think not one but two SBDU Team Pros might have elicited some comment out of a hot-to-trot guy on his plastic Pinarello, but you'd be wrong. I even complimented his plastic bike - nothing.

No, we didn't enter the garage with the bikes on the roof!

I rode my commute again today. Today's ride was the Motobecane. The weather this morning can best be described as a steamah, not a scoachah but a steamah. (That's Boston-speak for not a scorcher but a steamer, which means not so hot but very humid.)

The ride home was eventful in an offbeat way. A few miles from home I came upon another cyclist standing beside his parked bike so I stopped and asked if he was okay. His rear tire had blown and he was trying to flag down a car (he said he was hoping for a truck but he wouldn't have seen many on that road) to carry him the 2 miles or so to Belmont Wheelworks in Waverley Square. I said I'd give hm a tube or patch his except that I was riding sew-ups. After a few moments of discussion I recalled that someone on BF had posted about someone putting a sew-up on a clincher rim in a pinch. So I pulled out one of the two spares I was carrying and put it on his rim, pumped it, and we rode away!

I suggested he might want to be careful, especially as the route involved one downhill where you can easily hit 35mph. A short while later we pulled into Belmont Wheelworks, I got my tire back, and he went to the counter to buy a tube.

One noteworthy thing about this incident is that when I went to pump up the tire I found the tip of the valve stem was gone. Just gone. I think it might have broken off. Or been eaten. Or vanished into thin air. Since the valve is held closed by the air pressure there was no problem pumping it up. But it makes me wonder if that tube has a removable core. The tube was put in by TireAlert and I have no idea what he used except that it doesn't appear to be the lightweight tube I requested.

Life is full of mysteries.

I headed to the top of Mont-Royal again today. This was my second time. This time I got off the bike to walk around check out (assess) the off-path trails. Wow. This was heaven for me. Once I was confident that riding some of the easier trails was safe I got back on the bike for some slow downhill trail riding - for the first time in my life really. And so it begins! I still need some knobby tires on my bike, but I just couldn't resist a little riding on my slicks (eeeeek!). I got a little lost on the way down, ended up on private property and then on a super fun and fast(!) descent on a paved street.

Went to the local farm for some veggies, hung out with some baby turkeys too!

For some reason I can't get the photo the right way...it's correct on my iPad but not when I upload it into the message

I conquered one of the biggest hills in my area. A massive 4' summit with a daunting 2% grade.

@Sir_Name The landscape and shoreline are gorgeous. Where in CT is that? I often go to CT to visit the wife's family and would love to find some new scenic routes.
@TickDoc That Ciocc is such an eye catcher. You must have missed it after three weeks without riding.
@jimmuller Stories like that are why I am thankful that I joined BF. The members are such kind people.
@nesteel Sometimes I wish my commute was so wonderfully flat.

Thanks. Those pics were taken in the Branford area, maybe a bit into Guilford. Just NE of New Haven. Feel free to PM if that's close to where you visit. There's some good riding across the state.
