Wish I had some pics of my ride today. I did only 60 miles, but it had 4300 foot elevation gain. And not to mention the temp was 100°! Oh what fun! >

Today the Tour de France passed through our area, and mrs non-fixie and I pointed our bikes southward to go have a look at La Caravane Publicitaire, the publicity train that preludes the riders. They never show that on TV and from historic pictures I had concluded it must be something special.
It was conceived in 1930 (!) and consists of funny-looking vehicles filled with pretty young ladies that throw gifts at the audience along the road. We were not disappointed.
The Dutch police had been replaced by the French Gendarmerie, BTW:

Nice pics as usual, everyone. I started at the bottom of the page and worked up and when I saw the lovely pics in post 7324 I said to myself they must be from EBH. Sure enough they were!

I did 44k today on a bike path along the canal. There's a lift bridge at the end of the trail (and a beach too but I didn't bring my bathing suit!). I arrived just in time for a boat passing through. This was my longest ride since getting back on the bike. Felt great!

I went on a short vacation to the Olympic Peninsula last week. We spent a couple nights over in Port Angeles, at Tim's(Lascauxcaveman) hotel. My wife was nice enough to let me pack my bike along. Anyhow, I got up early on Friday and rode up Hurricane Ridge. It's just shy of 20 miles and about 5'200 feet of elevation gain to the top. I made the mistake of not eating or getting any caffeine into my system prior to the ride.. That took it's toll on me early on.
For anyone planning a trip over that way, I highly recommend that you contact Tim if you need a place to stay. I have had two great stays there.

On Friday I rode my Lambert fixie 107 miles around eastern Long Island. Nice day for a ride! No wind.
Scared up some herons fishing in a tidal pool. I snapped a few photos as I rode by:
Greenport was having a 'Tall Ships' festival. I would have liked to check it out, but... eh, tourists! Fortunately I got a pretty good view of most of the ships since I was on the Shelter Island Ferry that came in right between them.

In Montreal or out in the farm country? The name of that pic seems to be FullSizeRender.jpg. Is that all the bigger a render gets? I've been to Montreal many times (my sweetie is from there) but I've never seen a render in person, never knew they lived in Montreal.

I rode on Sunday the Maratona dles Dolomiti, I rode an older titanium Airborne, but I did see a Daniel from the US on abeautifull steel Ciöcc.

Haha. I'm not sure exactly what this animal is. Groundhog? He was big and not shy! I was off the island on a peninsula that runs parallel to the south shore which consists of merely a 15k roadway (no cars though, just cyclists). Very peaceful.

A so so ride today.
I didn't think it was possible to have a bad bike ride but this one may qualify. I left the house in a foul mood because of the stupid tree trimmers. I took this bike that I haven't ridden in a few years and was shaking it down after a lot of rebuilding this winter.
So between the bike having some gearing I am not used to a few mechanical quirks and super tight racing geometry which translates into twitching steering it wasn't very relaxing.
... The frame is a RIGI, and was imported in the early '80s and designed for a short closed course racing called a criterium. I stripped the cranks, derailleur and brakes off and sold them over the winter, the rebuilt with some parts didn't sell and new bar and stem. I just need to ride it more to get back to being comfortable on it.
Oh this is a copy/paste from my FB page so I just left the bike details in.
I did about 19.5 miles I am having trouble with the gearing. I sold the SR cranks and BB that was on it and put this SR set (shorter) with 48/42 rings, and 5 spd FW. I believe the FW is a Junior 15-23 or something I'll have to look. I an having trouble getting that Gian Roberts FD to shift onto the big ring w/o hitting the crank arm. The cranks are 172.5s on a Phil BB and they are about 5mm from the chainstays. So between the shifting, the twitchy handling, the left/front shifter loosening, breaking an acrylic nail off (I reached down right handed to trim the FD and wasn't careful and index finger caught the front tire) it wasn't my best day on the road. But on the bright side I did get 19 miles in ona bright sunny day!!

Trout Run Trail
I live in AZ but every summer spend a couple weeks in the small Iowa town where I grew up. One of the highlights is always riding the Trout Run Trail, an 11 mile loop that circles the town crossing numerous trout streams along the way. If you are ever in NE Iowa, you should check it out. Took the nishiki on it's maiden voyage on the feeder canal trail in Glens Falls, NY. It's not a terrible gravel path , although the scenery is a little rough. I'm in love with this bike, it really handles well. I think it's going to end up a dropbar single-speed gravel grinder though...

The nearly-every-morning 12 mile short loop ride in the Savannah River Valley that I try to get done before it gets to 100F. I leave "Big Blue" on a stand in my office so I have no excuses to not ride before the day starts. Depending on how early I get up, I can easily stretch this loop to 16 or 22 miles.

We didn't even wait for the riders. We would have had to wait for at least an hour and a half, so we rode back home to watch it on tv. Much better view.

Horrendous wind today and getting ready for a weekend softball tournament for my daughter. Was able to squeeze in a little parking lot shakedown ride on the Vitus 979. I have a few changes I want to do but it's a rider. It's coming in between 18-19 lbs in my unscientific weighing system.

Wow, very pretty 3R and V bikes.
I got no pics today. Just rode my commute again after two days off because of weather and music commitments. My rear tire, a Gatorskin, got a flat this morning. I couldn't find the cause so I threw my spare tube on and rode the rest of the way to work. Later I noticed it flat again, went to patch it and found the glue in my patch kit had gone dry. Uh-oh. Tried using some 3-M spray-on contact cement, found it didn't work so well. I ended up riding home by pumping up the tire every few miles.
