Indeed, @scozim, those distractions are part of the charm. I zip by lots of interesting stuff but usually don't feel like stopping. @JJScaliger, that classicist, is the real master at digging up historical stuff. His typical stomping ground is maybe 50 to 100 miles south of mine, another area loaded with history. And a few hundred miles south of here @Vonruden and @rhm highlight a slightly more recent history but more colorful than New England's sometimes stark simplicity.

VR, I'm always impressed at how your pics always match the bike's color to the background colors. I expected to see the blue of that Weigle mixed with the blue of Asbury Lanes. Or maybe it's there and blends so well I just didn't see it.

And one more thought here. @rhm, you toss off 112 miles like a sip of beer. I doff my helmet in respect!

Took a road trip to southern Illinois to check out Tunnel Hill State Park, a rail to trail. Think Katy Trail with more shade, more elevation change, and less dust. But the lack of dust may have been due to recent rains. I landed in Vienna, which is about 14 miles from the southern end and ten miles from the namesake tunnel, which is the highest elevation on the trail. Rode north first to the tunnel, then returned to Vienna to head south and return. Not much in the way of photos and certainly paltry compared to Vonruden's

I took my coupled 84 Letour Luxe on its first airplane ride. We put in 250 km in and around Harrisonburg, Va, and then returned home to high heat and humidity. And even some rain! Hopefully I'll get out tomorrow on something else, as the box remains un-opened.

I finally got around to finishing the Anquetil project I started this winter today. My moto gr kind of eclipsed the JA. It came out pretty nice, and rode great! Just a shorty at 25 miles 1300' elevation gain in Johnston and Scituate RI.

Several first rides for me: new saddle, simplex retrofriction shifters, 25mm rallys,Regina fw (13-23) GB rando bars, vitus 971 frame. Everything was great!

6 speed 13-23 is the sweet spot for me on gearing; perfect for the undulating terrain of southern NE. Challenging and fast but not painful. I probably couldn't cut it with a 21 as a bailout. I have a 13-26 5 speed on the moto but I never use the 26 unless it is really steep. Having a 17 and 19 instead of just one middle gear makes a big difference too. Maybe I'll splurge for a sun tour ultra for the moto; ramblings...

This bike is light with this frame set, campy nuovo record and sew ups. These are the straightest and best rallys I've ever owned; no lumps, twists or hops! Not as nice as the Challenge roubaix, but very nice riding for the $.













This afternoon I replaced a broken spoke on the moto so I'll probably ride that tomorrow, barring rain. The Anquetil earned its place in the stable today.

A Long Hiatus

My wife and I have been busy attending to the needs of elderly parents for the past several months so we've been on our bicycles very little since December. But the worst is behind us and riding is once again an option!

Yesterday I did one of my favorite local road rides with a few miles of gravel thrown in for good measure. The photo is of the sweat lodge at Kule Loklo, the Miwok village at Pt. Reyes National Seashore. The local Miwok still use this lodge for ceremonial purposes.



Thank you all for all of your posts to this thread. In spare moments I would visit here and get inspiration from all of you for future rides.

Yesterday I took my '77 Pro Tour to the Swedish Isle of Ven.



The tires are modern touring/city type with some tooth, which came in handy on some of the sand, dirt and gravel paths. It was packed with tourists on rental grandmother bikes, and quite a few clueless people on rented tandems, too. I wish I had gone sooner...

15 mile morning ride beforen 9:30, when it begins leaning toward being uncomfortably hot.
Well, I thought I'd get with the program and start taking some pics. This is what I get for my efforts. I'll keep plugging away though. I'm fully aware that if I perform the same keystrokes ten times, it will work as promised once or twice. Just not today.

Not today, but last night (by way of headlight & flashing rear light)... My sister and I did the annual Anthem Moonlight Ride here in Richmond, VA. My wife didn't ride and neither did my brother-in-law (but he was there volunteering). It's a really cool event, and draws people of all ages. It starts out at "The Diamond" - home to the Richmond Flying Squirrels (our Double-A minor league baseball team), and goes up into the Lakeside area, Bryan Park, swings over onto the historical Monument Ave, and returns back to The Diamond.

Oh, and I had a little accident on the BG trail - a tiny lapse of attention saw me go off the inside of the trail and into a small irrigation ditch! My speed was near zero mph by the time I went in (hard on the brakes) and the ditch was pretty much dry. Sideways endo, no damage to me or the bike. Kinda embarrassing, though
