On ride to Mt. Vernon and back on my (now my son's) Raleigh International, yes I know it is shot NDS...oh well, cool mural! Lots of graffiti up and down the Metropolitan Branch Trail toward Brookland, most are freelance, this mural titled "Movement" is legal.

Raised on Long Island.. Lived upstate in Dutchess county, then to Cape Cod and again back upstate. Now my sister and I live in AZ and we regret it as far as our bike rides are concerned. AZ summers suck!

First ride on the new bike.
I live in the watershed of the Lagunitas Creek. Most of my rides either begin or end by crossing some of the bridges over this creek. So yesterday's ride was the Bridge Tour, a good excuse to take pictures of the bike and of the bridges.
The first one is known as the Inkwells Bridge, named for the popular swimming holes beneath this bicycle and pedestrian bridge. This is at the eastern end of the Samuel Taylor Bike Path where it meets Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.
The bike path follows an old railroad grade, paralleling the highway and entering Samuel P. Taylor State Park. It crosses over the highway and the Lagunitas Creek at this bridge made to look like an old train bridge.
The highway crosses the creek at this highway bridge.
This bridge crosses the creek in the heart of the state park at a picnic area, popular for swimming and splashing.
At Jewell is an old steel bridge, closed to cars, that connects the bike path with the highway.
The old highway bridge at Tocaloma is now used almost exclusively by cyclists and hikers. The backdrop provides another good excuse to take a picture of my newly-acquired bike.
Finally the creek crosses under its last bridge before flowing into Tomales Bay at California Highway One in Point Reyes Station.

Beautiful day and fun ride with forum member Steve_Witlatch and bike Mike (that what I call him anyways). Rode west of Chicago, along the scenic Fox River. Bit of an obstacle course. Steve was on his tricked out Witcomb and Mike on a steel Trek 600 series w/ D-A STI dual control. Got in nearly 60 miles round trip.
Bike traffic bottleneck at one area. Sudden oncoming in the traffic is a sharp kitted older gent on an all chrome vintage Frejus. He bumped into a mtn. bike and went down. Watched it happen and fortunately was a minor incident. Helped him out of the mayhem and seemed OK. Talked to the fellow and said he purchased it in 1963 for $120, and felt was ripped off! LOL. Campy equipped and a re-chrome later years. He was from Ecuador. Very cool dude riding vintage in style.

Yesterday took a ride through the valleys south and east of Menominee Wisconsin. Beautiful area. Can't decide if I like Spring Valley MN or Spring Valley WI more (both are spectacular scenery).

Our band played at the Basin Bluegrass Festival in Brandon, VT this weekend. We got home last night with a significant sleep deficit. The Green Mountains sure are lovely. So no riding until today.
So today I took the Motobecane out for about 35 miles. I rode through Minuteman Historical Park, being careful to observe the speed limit.
Here is a monument that almost no one ever sees. It is tucked into the inside edge of a turn where drivers would never even think about thinking about thinking to look. On a bike however...
It reads "Mirialm's Corner - The British troops retreating from the Old North Bridge were here attacked in flank by the men of Concord and neighboring towns and driven under hot fire to Charlestown."

I am a tad late in posting this but on Sat., 07/03, I drove out to Mastic Beach, LI early in the morning to meet with @rhm for a Long Island century ride. It was a great day for a ride, a bit hot and sunny but sunblock mitigated that issue. We rode just over 118 miles and I consumed one of the top 5 burgers that I have tasted for lunch at an establishment whose name I cannot recall. I only took a few photos but it was a heck of a fun day. I rode my '73 Raleigh Super Course TT and Rudi rode his fixie Lambert.

I was in the US 2 weeks ago, I visited friends in Phoenix, the weather wasn't inviting to do much cycling
But my good friend had just bought a new hot air balloon and we went to Panguitch Utah for its maidenflight. Stopping at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and staying at Jacobs Lake in one of the cute cabins mda the trip memorable.

It's the other end of the state, and Alison Kraus will not be there, but Canoegrass! Great if you play bluegrass, like to canoe, drink beer, or camp with people who do. Sadly, it's the same weekend as the Pelotonia in Columbus, and Great Ohio River Paddle in Cincinnati.
