After two torturous winter months I finally commuted to work again this morning. The 6 miles of hills of Yonkers never felt so great. 40 deg. and sunny made this a wonderful welcome back to riding. The rebuilt U08 performed very nicely.

Finally a decent scenery pic from a ride. A lot better than pics of corn fields.

No pics so you'll have to take my word for it, it really happened. I did my first commute of the year today, 32 miles round trip on the Raleigh Gran Sport. Temperatures were in the upper 20'sF when I started this morning, in the 50's when I returned. Had strong steady headwind, upwards of 25mph for the return. Welcome to spring!

We don't have corn fields around here, so that sounds pretty exotic. Please, by all means- post up those pics :)

Sweet bike and great scenery. I love cycling past the Intrepid. My uncle served on there and he has fond memories of his time on the ship.

Today was holiday for my employer so we took the tandem out. We wanted to hit the roads we usually ride but traffic was so frenetic we decided to stick to the Minuteman Bikeway, Bedford to Alewife in Cambridge. From Alewife we ran the Fitchburg Extension trail just for the distance. Since that's just about one mile long you could say we did the extra mile. Round trip 22 miles.

Spy Pond is still mostly frozen:

A nice ride today on the Anderson. First part was out into the wind with some hills thrown in. The way back was somewhat downwind, and much flatter. I'd have climbed a little more but I couldn't resist the urge to ride the brand new "zephyr trail" west out of downtown Stillwater before reconnecting with the Gateway trail and heading down to Marine. The new trail goes along a scenic trout stream for a mile or two, then flattens out and becomes typical rail trail fare. Pics of that next time around. 68 miles today, which felt much less than the 50 mile hill rides I've been doing on gravel lately.

Finally got out today, first ride since January. Felt great, got in about 25 miles with some climbing, smelled someone's woodstove at one point. It was very windy here in CT today, but in the high 40's to low 50's. I missed riding a lot over the winter, glad I got out today. Stopped at an old one room schoolhouse along the way for a couple of pictures.

The bike is an 81 Trek 710 I picked up late last fall, this is only the second time I've had it out. It is a keeper for sure.

That brought back some memories. I used to live in Arlington fairly close to spypond.

Nice pics Jim and Chrome Molly, we were blessed with Sun today in the Northeast. Way to much wind at the Jersey Shore (30+mph), so decided to seek the shelter of the woods.

VR, at least your woods are rideable. Our winds were supposed to be gusting to 50mph so I figured we should stay on a sheltered route. So we drove out to the Nashua River Rail Trail. We barely got started when we hit snow and ice extending indefinitely ahead of us. Turned around and went back to the car. Round trip 0.35 miles today.

That stinks, hang in there warm weather is a coming soon.

Rode 28 miles today.
Temp: 67
Wind: 10 - 12 mph
Sunny with not a cloud in the sky.
A lot of people were out enjoying it.

Nice pics guys! @ OTG Ekonk Hill Rd can be tough in the wind! It was really windy today as well, but after this winter I had to get out. Temp mid 50s with winds 20-40mph!

Hit about 2 miles of dirt roads. I wanted to see how the Challenge paris roubaix fared; pretty good.

40 hard fought miles. Moto rode great and continues to impress me. gear ratio is a challenge with 53/42-13-26 5 speed. I did 2400' elevation gain, my legs were burning when I got home.

Looks great! Mine are sitting on the rims, having stretched all winter, waiting to be glued up and ridden. Have fun at Eroica!!

How do us northern cyclists deal with the cold and snow? We head south!! We took bikes to Gallup, NM and did a couple rides. Sunny and in the 50s and low 60s in the morning, but windy...

First ride started at Fort Wingate (in the background behind this monument). The fort was originally created to "control the Navaho tribe" in 1868. Based on the graffiti, I don't think there is a warm fuzzy feeling for the monument dedicated to the military post now mostly in the control of the tribe.

The road south steadily climbs 1100 ft over the next 8 miles to McGaffey lake (more like a pond these days). Beautiful high plains hills studded with pine trees between 7000-8000 ft above sea level.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-R...Mexico%2B-%2B1

Day 2 started on the other side of the highway in a very different landscape at Red Rock Park which encompasses Church Rock, the spires seen in the background.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-A...Mexico%2B-%2B4

We rode out of the parking lot and headed north on 566 (we did get our kicks, but not exactly on Route 66 ) through this:
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-j...Mexico%2B-%2B5
(I thought the picture would be better, but I apparently focused in the wrong spot.) We took the paved road on the right of the butte and to the left of the dirt road in the middle of the picture and rode to hills on the left side of the horizon for a 20 mile round trip.

It was great heading out with a 15-20 mgh tailwind, it wasn't so fun coming back into a 20-25 mph headwind... it picked up for the return route. I'm no monster, but I'm fairly healthy cyclist; even riding down a 4% grade giving it all I had, I couldn't average more than 12 mph for the first two miles... it got worse as I headed back up the canyon. We were wiped after that one. The landscape around Gallup has a stark beauty that makes her a harsh mistress. It's a good reminder of how one needs to respect the elements wherever you are... and to take it easy if you normally live at 3000 ft.:thumb:

Looks nice and toasty Dave! Nice pics as well JJ!

I missed riding last weekend so avoided the hills and rode 65km along the Adelaide coast line.
Was a bit chilly and windy but on return could maintain 35-45kph with the tail wind.

Lots of Easter Sunday festivities but I didn't hang around long, on with the ride.

Two days ago I got in my first commute to work after several months of next to no riding. Sorry no pics. 3.7 miles each way (about 1/2 bike path and 1/2 well shouldered road). Felt great! Temps in the 40s on the way, and in the 60s on the way home. Shorts! It's been a long COLD winter here in Northeast VT. 'Course we woke to new snow and temps in the 30s yesterday and today. This is my first post in quite a while on Bike Forums. Still very much a Nubee here. Great to read advice and see pics from all around the world. Thanks to the administrators and fellow riders for the site! Ciao for now (I'll be back).

Feels good to get back in the saddle, even if only for a few miles. Work on those pics, don't be intimidated. Some guys around here are quite remarkable photographers, but really we all just want to see your outings. :)
