That stem was an accident. I put it on just to test the build and fit, and ended up really liking the fit. So I kept the stem, but really have never gotten used to how it looks. I suppose a traditional stem at that height would look awkward as well.

The Brooks Champion Flyer is an old favorite, but I'm thinking about replacing it with a NOS Ideale I have here.

I painted the cranks, but the chainrings came like that.

If those work for you, then its how things should be, everything about your Pug says that its loved, and ridden by a true cyclist, not someone looking to please another groups ideas about how a bike has to look. Ride on brother!

The crankset is unusual, never seen that pattern on the chain rings before. Unique look to it, that actually ties in well with the rest of your build. Keep up these wonderful reports, I come in to work, looking forward to your posts in this thread, each day.

Here's what my weak ass could muster today. Still out of shape from winter hibernating. Brilliant tailwind led to a brutal headwind on the way back (software doesnt do it justice, it was gusting to 30 earlier in the day), but it felt good to get out again for a long ride.

I rode my commute for the first time in over a month, maybe longer. The warm weather, considerably warmer than it should be for February, melted the snow banks enough to make riding safe enough. Of course the snow left lots of debris.

February and riding in jersey and shorts in CT awesome.

No stunning pics.
No stunning bikes.

Just a nice ride with Ex-Pres, visiting the area from Birmingham AL.
So nice, we just might do it tomorrow, if the tequila doesn't talk me out of it.

Rode the Medici today, absolutely beautiful weather for February, 75°F with a bit if a NNW wind. Very enjoyable ride around the fallow farm fields (alliteration gentlemen, alliteration.) During planting this one rotates between cotton and peanuts.

Pice are across from the "Square" as this field is known. Everything down here is in bloom or else budding out, pollen and allergies are the rule this week.

@Vonruden, thanks much, this was Drillium Dude's frame set for his sunset deployment to Diego Garcia, a couple of years back. It is a very generous and treasured gift form him, it won't ever be leaving my grubby little hands. It is my introduction to the C&V world, last year. My stable is pretty well settled, I have learned not to say "never" when we are talking bicycles, I have a collection of Nuovo Record parts that could hang on the right frame and fork, say a Holdsworth Professional, or perhaps a Raleigh Pro, Mk.V.

I understand that your pleasant weather is making its exit, for another winter storm here shortly. Best get in the miles while you can. Happy riding on that sweet looking Richard Sachs.

I went tooling' around on the Elan . Rode to the copy shop to prep some art. Then down to Strangeways, where I had their "Gwar Blood" red (it's a local thing). Talked to an old friend on the phone about political and records, the second being more interesting. On the way back, found a Wallet in the midst of the street, complete with id and credit cards and social security card. Now waiting for police to turn it over.

We took out tandem out for 30.75 miles today. Had to fight cold temperatures, low 40's, and high winds. Tracking a straight line was tough.

Bedford has been slowly restoring the old terminal where the Minuteman Bikeway intersects the rail trail built on the old Bedford-Billerica Narrow Gauge RR line. The latest addition, some new picnic tables. A stop in the sun was welcome.

Great day out getting some water front mileage. Being an ex-garbageman I enjoyed the tour de closed landfills; Hayward, San Leandro, Alameda. Also enjoyed the sunshine after some relentless days of ran. Nice to see others doing the same...

@Chuckk, man you scored big time with that Iron Man. Excellent project bike, should be a snap to get it humming along, from the looks of it in your picture. Well done sir, very well done.

I took the wife's car in for a service about 20 miles away, brought the bike and took the long way home via the backroads.

While you folks were out having fun, some of us had to go to work. So I rode my commute.

Well I didn't have to go to work (laid off) but had plenty of work to do. Had to safe a 'widow maker' that had broken off high in one tree and hung up in another couple - real heavy, awkward mess of limbs, vines and dead wood. All's well now, safely on the ground and sorted. So I took a ride around the block on Babe The Blue Oxen ('70s Sears Free Spirit). Aaah, what a fine racing bike! Light, nimble, responsive little wisp of a thing. Smooth, quiet 2x5 drive train and those excellent DT (morphed from stem) shifters as the plastic is self lubricating and smooth as butta. And the low trail front (30mm on a good day with fair seas) is so responsive in the neighborhood cul-de-sacs I can almost U-turn with no hands (but would end up in the ditch if I tried). All this plus the svelte, boom era geometry and classic BSO design touches and artisan workmanship make me proud to show it off. Great day.

(I may have been less that truthful about some of the above hyperbole, a little, a wee touch......)

@Prowler I don't know what your usual line of work is... but I think there might be a future for you in writing Craigslist bicycle ads!

Got out for a quick 20 miles in the hills above Berkeley, and some views of the Bay Area. If you squint enough you can just make out the Golden Gate Bridge off in the distance. It was a glorious sunny day in the mid-60s. Then I picked up my daughter at school on the way home in full lycra, to her utter mortification. :)
