That new paved trail peters out after six or seven miles of nice fast riding to become more like this:

As you can see, the views get better as the riding surface gets rougher. There are so many great views on the trail around Lake Crescent that I stopped shooting them after awhile so i could just get home in time for dinner. OK, one last shot in a larger format:


OK, you gotta take one on the Lyre River bridge, too. That is a requirement:



After that, it's around the north end of the lake, back onto HWY 101, and pickup the rest of the rails-to-trails link into downtown Port Angeles, taking you past our scenic boat haven,

and back to work where I have my car.

All in all, a survivable ride that would have actually been enjoyable on a bike that weighed 10 lbs less. Will make a mental not on this.

I'm gonna have to stay at your hotel sometime this spring and check out that route, caveman.
I've only ridden between Sequim and Hurricane Ridge, never anything west of there.

Nice weather yesterday for my commute. In the 30's in the morning, it warmed up to around 50 for the ride home.

It's great too see folks out riding again. NB, you have too much beautiful country to ride through. That's not fair! That's pretty enough to make me interested in trail bikes.

I did get out riding today. After a week in East Sussex, England on U.K. time and eating English food and drinking English beer and a seven hour plane ride yesterday, I paid for it a little today. My sweetie convinced me to participate in a 90 min yoga class this morning. It's been a few years. I rediscovered how many places a body can be tight in. Then she said "Why don't you take a bike out?" Great! 2hr30min, probably about 25 to 30 miles, not sure since I didn't track it out. It would have been great if I'd gotten in 20% more, because then I might have hit the 60% it wasn't supposed to rain instead of the 40% it was. It did. Of course it did. And now I have to clean another bike. And it was cold. Still, it was a good day.

Got out to do a 20+ mile test ride today. I am still amazed that bike from 1973 has clearance for 35mm tires & fenders! I test fit some black SKS Long boards but took them off since it was nice out. It may need a shorter stem and to move the seat up a bit. It will get black cloth tape when finished.

Fender, that a neat SC. Are those 700c wheels or 27? I would have guessed that a '73 SC came with 27", but noglider could say for sure. If it did and you have 700c that would explain why you have so much clearance, no? But then, maybe the expected fenders and larger tires. Back then the standard "performance" clincher would have been 1 1/4", 32mm, probably running 70psi.

Thanks Jim! It is actually a Super Tourer (like a Competition with a Professional fork crown) and is full 531. It was spec'd with 27" wheels and I did convert it to 700c, so that explains some of the clearance. I was surprised it had this much. I have done many conversions from 27" to 700c and when trying to run, say a 32mm tire and fenders, I often ran into problems with clearances at the brake bridge or between the chainstays. Everything just bolted right on to this bike like it was meant to. The front fork can take a 700x55mm tire, which is pretty crazy! Here is a link to the original catalogue:

Low 20's for temps, and 15-25 mph winds, but still managed to get 10 miles in as my first outdoor ride of the season. Roads were a bit cleared after last week's thaw. It felt really good after such a long time. Skiing is pretty much done as the skate trails are now more suitable for ice skating than skis. Lower winds expected tomorrow, maybe the first ride with pic's then.

Up early this morning. I always seem to have trouble sleeping after a hard workout. Yesterday it was 78 miles on the fixed gear, 4300 ft of climbing. You'd think I'd be able to sleep through the night. The legs feel like they got used yesterday

Thanks! I, too have a thing for this color scheme. I had a 4th grade teacher who used to commute to school on this exact model. It was my first case of "road bike lust". I did not lust after his gigantic, white Bell helmet.......it was the 70's......

36 miles, home to Concord via Arlington, Lexington, Bedford. Temp a bit under 40F, not too bad because it was dry. Light traffic today. Not many bikes either, but non-zero.

Haven't posted much lately due to a crazy work schedule and some nasty weather in February and early March. Finally got out today for a couple of hours, temps in the high 40's, wind from the south (but not nearly what it normally is this time of year). I took the Spectrum Ti out for it's first ride of the year. After riding the past 4+ months on my Vitus 788 tubed Gitane Sprint I had forgotten how much fun it is when you drop 4+ pounds of weight off a bike. That Spectrum is so responsive.
