Thanks. I've had very good luck with the Gatorskins on my Bianchi and mostly good luck with the Paselas on almost everything else. I fell in love with the ride of the Vittorias I had been using on the Masi. I also fell in love with the feel of good tubulars and so built the tubular wheels with Veloflex Criteriums for the Masi (and it should have had tubulars all along). But I finally had to measure the Vittorias not by trips per flat but by flats per trip That's when I decided to try something else and have both tubular and clincher wheels for it. We'll see.

Little Compton/ Tiverton are great places to ride. Farms next to the ocean, not too hilly. I haven't been in over a year. I need to go east of the bay more often. Westport MA is nice too. Maybe this fall...

We rode parts of Tiverton and Westport on some NBW rides a few years ago. Enjoyed it very much. Westport is nice as long as you don't have to climb eastward up Hixbridge Rd from the Westport River.

Because of the sad death of my 29er I jumped on the pug today. Did a coast to the hills ride and back along Linear Park bike track. I left a bit late in the day and rode about an hour in total darkness with no lights.
Also the brand new trials compound brake pads are going in the trash, no amount of adjustment could stop the squeal from hell.

It was windy today, wuzznit? Heading south was harder than heading north! On the other hand, when the temperature hit 87F the headwind was a nice coolant.

We did 40.37 miles on the tandem today. Mostly our usual roads but we did check out something new, East Riding Drive in Carlisle (I think). It wasn't what I wanted but now I know what the road marked "Closed" from 225 must be, the northern end of Brook St. I took it from Maple as an alternate way to 225. Very pretty too. It hits East St so that a left heads into Carlisle Center.

We saw four other tandems today, plus a fifth as we were driving out of Bedford.

I did about 40 miles on the Fuji Saratoga today. Rode to my daughters place in Lebanon, CT, met up with my wife there and me, my daughter, my wife and my grandson went on a ride on the Airline Tail in Colchester. Grandson was in the trailer, pulled by grandpa. Didn't get any pictures, but we had a nice day.

I led my 1hr spin class this morning, but then had a difficult time getting off my duff to do anymore. I feel guilty if I don't also get an outdoor ride in when the weather is nice. It was windy today so decided to do some mountain biking on the new to me Terramount. The suntour components worked just fine, and it was nice to have a friction front derailleur. The seat got wonky during the ride. Easy trails today as I'm still a bit cautious from my accident a few weeks ago. I'll need to get out the Kona in order to tackle the rougher stuff again. The Paramount has that long top tube feel of its era, and I like my MTB's more BMX'y. Anyhow, a long story for one picture from the trail.

Lebanon Ct is one of the coolest places I've ever ridden a bike! The town green is really something.



The Old Trumbull Cemetery is one of the best colonial burial grounds in this area. Like jagged teeth covering this small hill top.

Is anyone here planning to ride the Massbike Century/Metric/32mile'r on Saturday the 26th, either as or not as a participant in the 50+ forum's Annual 50+ Ride?

My sweetie really, really, really wants to do the metric, starting at 9AM. Some of that route looks to be interesting, especially the run up to Harvard at about the 2/3rds point. Some of the rest we've ridden before, and it is very pretty. Any other takers?

We've been blessed with very nice weather here in Northern Virginia recently, not too hot, not too humid. We're also fortunate to live in such a beautiful area, and now that I'm retired I get to enjoy it every day!

Local Fairfax County horse farm, entrance is just off of a side road that adds about five miles of hills (some of them are 10% + incline) to my regular 37 mile workout loop, just off of Rt. 123.


Occoquan Regional Park is also off of Rt. 123, has a long 30+ MPH descent down to the restrooms and batting cages. This time of year the climb out is nice and shady, lots of wildlife and nature-being-natural stuff to view along the way:


On Mondays I often do a 40 mile loop from Reston down to the Potomac across from DC on the Washington & Old Dominion and Martha Custis trail systems. Much less use on the weekdays and fewer Strava record-setters too. Nice way to start out the non-work week:

We will be quite happy to do the 32 mile ride which starts at 11 if that is the consensus. If we do that we'll probably leave our car in Bedford and rider over to the start. It gives us all another option.

I posted this somewhere a month or so ago but I don't recall where or when. So I'll mention it again.

I have half a dozen bikes people can borrow if bringing your own is a problem. All are vintage, about 56-58cm, and range from inexpensive though good to high-performance. Just let me know so we can make arrangements!

Since I spent all morning yesterday wondering around Amish country looking for the Sheetz where I was to meet RobE30 I never got a ride in. Oh well I met a great guy and sold him a fabulous bike and had a nice drive in the country, not a bad day.

I tried to spruce up the Ugly Betty yesterday so I could give her a little shakedown cruise this morning. The temp was nice 73d but 90%+ humidity and showers threatening. Oh well Off I went. Well shakedown was right. I got a block from the house the battery in the GPS died, not that I need it. Then about 3 miles out something felt funny in the pedaling. I thought it be my 'Junior" gearing and tried to ignore it but it got worse. A quick check revealed a loose right crank Short ride today, maybe as I headed home I remembered my auto garage is right along the way. I stopped borrowed a wrench and viola cranks tight again. OK Just a super short 10 miler today. Nope just as pulled out of the parking lot.... yes it starting raining. Naturally it stopped as soon I was out of my riding kit. Oh well Hilda will have to wait another day.
