Spent new year's day at my brothers holiday home at Moonta on Yorke Peninsula, Google if you like or just enjoy the pic's. Basically an 1800's copper mining town with great beaches I explored for half the day.

Absolutely stinking hot day the roads were melting, lucky I had the Sakae so I could ride off the sides of the road.



The water is crystal clear, for snorkelling it would feel like weightless in space. People were, there's a reef off shore.


They don't use letter boxes like this in the city anymore. Note how every home has giant TV antenna masts.






Only explored two mines from lack of water. The heat was only worse further inland.
May hard to gauge that tailings mountain size but that's all from one hole in the ruins there (hand dug) during the early to mid 1800's, shafts must go for miles under ground.






Small towns are powered by wind farms out here. Off to the left of picture turbines go as far as the eye can see.

Thanks to this thread I've ridden in places in 2014 I could never have managed otherwise. A few of those places are Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Norway, Croatia, Finland, Denmark, Canada, Italy, France, Spain. (Okay, maybe I misremember the year for some places.) I've climbed Mt. Ventoux. Here in the US I've ridden though Missouri, Florida, the Pacific northwest, all over New England, the New Jersey shore, Arizona, New Mexico, Minnesota, Wisconsin, New York, and many places I've forgotten. I toured the entire US west coast. It was a great year.

Let's do it again!

First ride of 2015. A leisurely spin around the Arboretum Park in Boston. Not a very long one but a nice ride nonetheless.

Ok so this is a day late but my last ride of 2014 was on my newly restored '84 Fuji Del Rey and it included an essential trip to the best Irish butcher this side of the Atlantic and a refill of a growler at a nice local Bronx brewery to ring in the new year. Last year was a great introduction to the C&V universe and I have learned so much. Best wishes all and keep riding and learning!

A fine bunch of pictures to start the year!

I went out for a short 24 mile ride on the Dawes. It was pretty cold; around 30 degrees with a 15mph. My feet were numb by the end of this short ride.

Scituate Reservoir and back. Through what little is left of the village of Kent.





I have the new Brooks swift on . Looks good, needs to break in. I think I might put a front rack and one of those boxy handle bar bags on the Dawes this year.

Manged my first New Year's Day ride in longer than I can remember, to the Hudson shore in Piermont, NY, as opposed to the Jersey (Atlantic) Shore, a'la VonRuden.

Cold, blustery & sunny in my neck of the woods. Temp didn't budge from 32-degF. Took off in the afternoon, rode almost 24mi, back home at 4pm.

I got out today for a shakedown cruise on the 82 Trek 710 I just finished. Rode 26 miles in somewhat reasonable temperatures, mid to high 30's. Bike had no issues at all, rides very nice.


The ice is starting to form on the still waters here in CT.

We've had ice forming here in Massachusetts for a week or two now.

We took the tandem out for 32 miles today. Temps in the mid to upper 30's. Rode from home to Cambridge, picked up the Minuteman Bikeway (Spy Pond has quite a bit of ice), out to Bedford with a small detour on part of my commute route. Took a roundabout way back into Lexington. The MM was empty.

Just outside Arlington Center where the MM continues westward after crossing Water St., remnants of the old RR track. More are on display in a little park in A.C itself. It looks like those rails haven't seen much traffic for quite a while.



A quick stop at the Lexington Visitors Center. It's all about perspective, isn't it?

Great picture of the old tracks. The crank on the Trek is a Sugino PX. It has a nice range for me, 46-36-26 paired with a 14-30 six speed freewheel. I just finished the bike yesterday, it's pretty much all original except the seat and brake levers. Thanks for the compliment, I think I'm going to put a lot of miles on this one.

I took the 87 Prelude out this evening, and very quickly realized that the Paramount is not the only bike worth riding. It's such a treat to have them both functional at the same time. Next evening ride will be on the 84 Letour Luxe with its new dynamo lighting set-up. No pics for me; I've given up on that for the time being. 67 km in temps in the low 80s, way too warm for this time of year. Happy New Year all.

It gets very cold and extremely windy...that said I'm a Norwegian American who was born in Grand Forks, ND, you guys have us beat by far.

gm, the big problem here in the right coast isn't always the cold. It's the dampness. Damp windy air at 20degF can feel might cold. But that isn't quite far-north cold. Here in Massachusetts we haven't seen deep-winter temps yet. They have in New Hampshire though. I've seen high temps about -10F when x-c skiing, but that's not an everyday occurrence.

Today I started out with a 16 mile ski, then took the Croll out for 27 miles of mixed roads. Needed to get my fun in prior to the cold temps expected tomorrow and next week. We're expecting low single digit highs, too cold for me to ride outside.

It was a great day to ride in the Twin Cities.

We started in St. Paul, traveled to Ft. Snelling and played tag with the fauna.

Coyotes, over twenty deer including a few bucks, eagles, Great Horned and Snowy owls and dozens of turkeys.

From there we followed the river trails into the west side of St. Paul where we had fish tacos at the Taco House.

After that we went on the Vento trail to the Gateway Trail. Some of it was closed but we eventually made it to Stillwater.

Had a beverage or two at a friend's house and made the return trip to our humble neighborhood in St. Paul.

71 miles total today. This is the longest ride I have ever completed in January.

Need less to say, I am shot tonight.

The Merckx never missed a beat, but I wish I could get a little more tire between those rear stays.

...and this guy caught a 17 pound Northern on this "un-named" Lilydale lake while we were riding.

We saw it on the way home. You can bet I will be back there in the spring with my fly road and kayak.
