Let us know when you take the Prelude for a real ride. It's a "sleeper bike!"

Is that a CODA 900 saddle? I bought one on closeout form a bike shop for ten bucks, it's the most comfortable saddle I've ever used.

It's a CODA, not sure about the model. it is very comfy.

Looks WAY better with the DT shifters! Needs a San Marco saddle now. Grey suede maybe?,,,,:D BD

I may just stick with the CODA. I also have a comfy Specialized saddle on the Dumpster Queen; if I decide to sell her off I might try that one on the Prelude. Not as comfy but it looks sexier.

Definitely awesome with the new shifters. How did you touch up the rust?

Assuming I can get used to it by then (which I think will be no problem), I plan to use it for Spring Time Trials at my club. ;)

Very impressive job, doohickie! Where is the thread you speak of? I want to read it.

Doohickie 02-12-10 01:34 PM

Here is the thread where I originally talked about finding the Prelude. You can see the pics I took at the pawn shop where I found it.

Picked up this Gios Super Record for a great deal the other day. Rides wonderfully. Replacement decals are on their way from Cyclomondo. :-)

Wondering about dating - it has a pat. 79 rear derailleur, nutted calipers, single water bottle bosses, over the bottom bracket cable routing, decal headbadge, silver fork crown coins. Any Gios experts care to weigh in?

That's a beautiful bike. I am Gios illiterate, so I have no clue about the date. Just sayin' that's a very cool ride.

delicious 02-13-10 01:26 PM

Thanks! It might be the best riding bike in my modest collection right now. I'll post some pictures once the semi-restoration is done.

And I just noticed it has the porta catena holes so I'm thinking it's a '78 or '79.

Kobe 02-13-10 02:59 PM

Porta catena? My Italian is non-existant, would that be portable(porta) water (canteen) bottle holes ?

delicious 02-13-10 03:15 PM

they're little holes in the drive-side dropout that let you install a short-lived campagnolo piece designed to make wheel/tire changes faster.

So much for my Italian. Kinda cool idea.

No; "chain holder." It was designed to facilitate wheel changes, but never really caught on. C.f. http://www.campyonly.com/history/portacatena.html

Although the portacatena device was phased out in the late 1970s, Campy must have contracted for a boatload of 1010B dropouts with the drilling to hold the portacatena. We were still using them at Trek well into the 1980s.

A friend of mine who works at the county convience site, combination dump, recycling center, and gossip hot spot, called Saturday saying he had me a bike. I though it might be a wally world ride, boy was I suprised it is a Raliegh Rapide In rather good condition. New tires, tubes, bath and a lube job and it will be rideable. Serial number M00613569, Does anyone know how old it is. If you can help thanks a bunch.

Picked up this trek 700 two weeks ago for a friend for $75.

Which I turned into this with some sora shifters et all from a BD bike I had that was too tall for us.

Proud new owner, so he'll stop riding my bike when he visits.

What an eye opener! I always thought the 700 was a nice bike, but "lame" looking. What a difference the drop bars and racing saddle make! Your posting has my imagination running wild right now. Thanks for sharing!

droobieinop 02-14-10 08:07 PM

Thanx, glad I could help.
Here's a pic of the 700's big brother, my 750 which I've never had stock.
First it had drops and barcons, then brahma's and trigger shifters,
http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=137422
and now drops and RSX brifters.
http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=137423
Last season I raced (1 lap @ 25 mph) on my 750.

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=137425
I'd been sick, had a frame failure on the bike I was going to race, 3 days to set up, it sucked.
But I caught the bug.

wrk101 02-14-10 09:38 PM

+1 Nice job turning that so so hybrid into a nice bike. I have had a few hybrids, none of them turned out that good!

champion city 02-15-10 01:09 PM

Found this medium quality bianchi on Kijiji yesterday. Ambrosio rims on suzue hubs, with a suntour ARX drivetrain and Dia-Compe brakes.
Very grimy and dirty but it is in good shape, showing few scratches, though some decals are falling off. The handlebar bag is a bonus, as i've been looking for a cheap one for ages.

champion city, I love it. Let us know how it rides once it's cleaned and tuned.

Doohickie 02-15-10 03:50 PM

Looks pretty similar to my Nishiki Olympic 12. The ARX on that was pretty good.

auchencrow 02-15-10 06:48 PM

I picked this bike up one day last summer, but just now got around to cleaning it up. It's a '76 insofar as I can tell.
I had hoped to get some decent outdoor pictures, but the weather has been unrelentingly gloomy here.

Whoa.

That's just.... insanely beautiful.

auchencrow 02-15-10 08:28 PM

Thank you for saying so, Doohickie.
You know, it always amazes me how many people don't see any aesthetic worth in these old bikes
(- but of course if they did, most of us would need to find a new hobby!)
