October 1964

When I was going to Indiana University, I was in a fraternity and wanted to ride on our bike team. The school gave us single speed track bikes to practice with but there weren't enough to go around, and I didn't get one of my own. By a stroke of luck, I happened to see a yellow bike frame sticking out of a dumpster. I fished it out and discovered that it was a Motobecane Nomad, totally stripped. I took it to a local shop and they had to straighten it out just a bit and I had it turned into a track bike. Unfortunately, no pics of this thing. I kept it for years out of sentimental value but in the end, I donated it to a Goodwill store. I know, I know, I should've kept it and refinished the frame! Oh, well!

Got my first taste of aluminum today...weather is no good so I can't test it out but it looks great!

1990 Trek 1000 with an all black Suntour/SR/Dia compe Blaze group...kind of cool looking but no idea how well any of it works. I'll probably start a thread about it as I need some advice on what to do with it.

I missed an 84/85 Trek 670 this morning by about 25-30 seconds. I will never be honest and park first again. I will park RIGHT where the bike is, and buy it on the spot.
It was $50, and my buddy wanted to flip it to me for $200 while still in the flea market, lol. I passed.. Nuovo record cranks, and derailleurs, Modolo brakes, gyromaster hubs.
It was too small, and the turquoise meets neon green color kind of irked me too. If it had fit, possibly.,,,,BD

REI was having their Scratch and dent sale today. Got a late start and showed up just as they opened. I was over the 200th in line. :rolleyes: I have managed to get a decent find at every one of these I have gone too even getting there very late. Some past scores, Set of Shimano SPD shoes. two sets of Transfer panniers, Morph pump that had the rubber installed backwards, brand new rear wheel with 8-9-10 speed Deore hub $15, New Origin 8 100mm stem for $15 few other things.
Todays find was a brand new set of Octalink cranks with bottom bracket. 50-39-30 for $30. Same ones that come on the current model of the Randonnee. The tag said they were pulled off a bike that had frame damage in shipping. Threw them on today and got a couple miles in tweaking the derailleurs to hit right and finding the sweet spot for the handle bars. Jury still out on the cranks. I really liked the 36 tooth middle ring on the old cranks but I did want a little more top end. Give it a couple weeks. Plan to take a nice long ride tomorrow.

Couple bikes that have my interest but not enough to drive cross town. One is a Lotus in my size. Price is wrong for a flipper (both for me to make coin on and price lower then a flipper would price it) but right for a keeper. over a 2 hour round trip to go after it. :( One Torpedo Italian bike I know is too small for me but it has campy parts. No picture but not a bad ride to go check it out. Both ads are a couple weeks out so they may be gone.

Yep, the Varsity is super cool, including the baby seat! I believe Rollfast was an American company, but it looks like they contracted that model from a UK manufacturer, like Huffy did with the Sportsman. Does that make it a "Rolleigh?" --edit: I see that Doohickie already pointed that out... oops!

It's shaping up to be a parts weekend for me, found a stack of these VAR wrenches for one piece cranks (works on the big locknut) at a local shop, plus a nicely made set of used MTB pedals with sealed bearings. Bought one wrench, but he has more for $5 ea...

I guess I did good for $15. The paint isn't half bad, but the handlebar chrome is shot, and of course that isn't a Schwinn banana. The speedo is missing the face, buy might be original Schwinn Approved.

It's better than a Schwinn banana, it's a Persons Solo polo. As desirable, and moreso to some collectors:D.,,,,BD

That surprises me. I grew up in the muscle bike days ( I owned a Sears Screamer 2) and I always hated the flat banana seats. Thanks for the heads up.

I still plan on converting my 1979 Schwinn Spitfire 5 (with drum brake) into an adult size muscle bike. I already have a 5 speed stick shift, ape hangers, and Kenda flame tires. Still need to get a 26" banana seat and sissy bar.

At least we know now that the "single rail" idea doesn't work.

Well I havn't posted finds for a while because it's winter but I just bought this big beast. I may also have a really cool old peugeot soon.

I paid alot for shipping but I think it will be worth it.
in canada it's always lightweights so I have to ship these in. this is firestone number two for me.

known he didn't want it, or was just out for a quick buck, I never would have sold it to him.,,,,BD

1988 Schwinn Premis
 

I got this 1988 Schwinn Premis a few weeks ago. White Cyclones, Sakae Cranks, DiaCompe brakes, Tenax frame- very light.
It was a filthy, grimey sight to behold, sitting upside down in a puddle when I came upon it - More than ready for the dump.

Apart from the usual A-Z overhaul-tubes-tires-housings-chain etc, I had to buy a new saddle for it, unstick the stem, re-tap the brake adjusters, find a few other missing brake bits and true up the wheels in a major way, but it all worked out and it rides quite nicely.
(It feels good to give it a second life.)

Gift bearing puddle... the puddles around here need to get their **** together. That bike looks immaculate. I couldn't imagine the joy if I came across something like that.

Pulled these off a Kuwahara Sage I SFTD. Odyssey Mohawk circa 1988, almost no use on them. Is it ironic I owned that exact Kuwi BITD? Turned out I got it from the people who stole it from me back in 1992. Little did they know I personally decked out this particular Kuwi with mix of LBS cast off parts and bits and peices I bought from same?

So, they are awsome IMHO and I cant believe I get to run a pair of them again, my questions here would be, does anyone remember them? Did anyone else run them? Were they intended for MTB or BMX only?

Picked up one of those late 80's model Tenax Voyagers yesterday for $30, hehe. Only problem is that it's about 53cm, hopelessly too
small for me. The frame is a little on the rough side, but should clean up nice. If anyone here wants the frame? I will post it on C&V
