Nishiki Cresta 1982

Found on CL, couldn't talk him down under $90, but have been looking for a classic to get me back in the saddle and this is just right for me. Mild cleaning, still have a way to go, spokes, DT shifters, etc, and am going to outfit with a Brook's B17 in brown and matching bar tape.

Haven't been by the scrap yard lately, so thought I would run by. Picked up a few projects. Got a Raleigh Technium Super Course, Schwinn Traveler, and a Trek 820 mtb. Paid $20 for all three. Hope to start working on the Raleigh soon and will post the "after pictures".

I just picked up two Techniums. One is a 440 and the other is a 460 I believe. Great riding bikes! Light and fast!

I've always been leery of the Techniums, thinking that the ride was harsh and jarring (Aluminum is bad?). Are they really as harsh as "we're" led to believe?

I had one once, and I didn't feel the ride was harsh . Bike was just too small for me.

I never took Latin in school, but shouldn't the plural of "Technium" be "Technia?"

No! I prefer the word sensitive. I can feel every part of the road surface that I am riding on! They don't have any wiggle or suspension feel that my old "heavy" steel bikes have. I find myself checking my tires for inflation on my steel bikes after riding an aluminum one! The Techniums are steel and aluminun...the best of all worlds! There may also be some torsional aspects with the construction method.

I only had one Technium I liked, and it was too small. It was a modernish Olympian in the black with purple marble "air brush" effect on the tubes. Techniums in general turn me off, and it's strictly because of the paint styling and graphics of the early to mid run models. Lavender and white, turquoise and white, etc. They just don't do it for me, aesthetically? It looked like easter egg colors, hehe. They ride fine IMHO.,,,,BD

I was wrong. It isn't silver. It's a 450, too! Fun bike to ride.

Yup! The bike looked like it was bought, rode once and put in the basement! After he put an ugly seat on it!

I have never thought it as jarring, but I have noticed they have a stiffer ride to them. They are very responsive.

I have a 400 that I've been riding for about 5 years and I think it's explained pretty well here. The ride is not "harsh" but you do feel the road. I really like mine

Has the quill seatpost, got the pedals with toe clips and like-new Christophe straps.
Looks to be LX100 Light Action, I've not counted cogs. If it's 6sp, it's going 600EX.
Local guy, wanted it gone. I paid what a seatpost would go for.
My size, but no clue what I'll do with it, besides a makeover.

Son of a gun, a Technium frame just got posted on c/l, $60:

[h=2]Raleigh Technium / New Tires - $6025 (Coeur d'Alene)[/h]

Raleigh Technium Tri-Lite
Bought this during the summer as this years winter project. Built it up and it's just too small for me.
Size (Center to top) is 21"
Frame is made from 6061-T8 Aluminum Thermal Bonded Alcoa.

Frame and Fork ONLY but comes with : headset, stem, fr Suntour derailleur, and recently overhauled Shimano BB.
Also has STI cable adapters fitted to the shifter lugs. Rear brake cable is internally routed. Accepts a 26.8 dia seatpost.
NO mudguard eyes.
Overall the frame is nice, no dents, cracks or gouges. Scraping on some of the decals as shown in pics, and the red paint touched up here and there.

Also comes with 2 brand new Rubena Syrinx V80 racing/training tires 700x23c in red and black.

Frame and tires - $60
TIRES ONLY -$25

Text or email via CL

Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet. It's my size, but I already have a Gran Premio & I just don't think this one would get many miles. If I flip it on CL it'll probably end up in the hands of the hipsters, so I'm tempted to rob the Shimano Arabesque deraillers & shifters & do the SS conversion myself first, or replace them with something not as pretty.

I know this thread is old, but this one just like the one I bought from a guy off Craigslist in Sunnyvale, CA for $280. 58cm, Arabesque Shimano 600 rear derailleur and tube shifters, old Dura-Ace front derailleur. Old saddle, coming apart. I wonder if it's the same... mine has a clip-in pedals though.

I don't know, that would make a fine campus bike for someone. Certainly deserving of better than the trash/recycling pile. I applaud your save!

I rescued this at a LBS today. Not quite sure what it's future will be, but I figure I can part it out if nothing else. Early 80s Pinarello....
