I snagged a sweet vintage (1986?) Ross Mt. Hood MTB today for a great price. A really pretty, recent Umass grad was moving cross country and looking to get rid of it. It's pretty much all there and original except the tires and saddle. A bit of surface rust on the chrome, but will polish up nicely. And check out the brakes, front and rear roller cams, Sweeeet!

Couple of weeks ago I found two of these. Called the bike shop that sold them with the SN's and did not get a reply. Since they are bottom of the line up, I assumed they were discarded during a move as they had a movers label on each seat. I tried to find the owners without success. No pics but I do have a CL listing as reference:

2004 Trek 3500 21" - $225 (Alexandria) http://images.craigslist.org/00303_4...8Z_600x450.jpg

Bike is in slightly used condition with a couple of scratches on the frame but otherwise near new condition. Frame has been waxed and brakes adjusted for the perfect ride. Fit for tall person from 5'11" to 6' 2"

Nice score. I saw that and was very tempted, but it was just a bit too far to justify the travel. I thought about looking for a facilitator because of the great price, but I already have the same exact bike, a bit larger, with decals. Glad someone on here was able to get it. Nice triple-butted Tange frame, and the roller cams are fun. What size is that one? If you decide to let it go keep me in mind ...

likebike23 03-31-14 03:15 PM

@pedalnmetal: Thanks. It's an 18" frame, and yeah the decals are almost all gone. The Tange triple butted and Ross decals on the seat tube are intact though. I think I'm going to overhaul the whole bike and enjoy it for a while. Where are you located?

I picked mine up last year and it still needs an overhaul. I think it's a 20" (or 22"?) - probably a bit too big for me, but I'm determined to make it work, maybe as a drop bar at some point. I'm in Cambridge now, but soon moving to Metrowest. Enjoy the ride.

That Ross is awesome

A 1959 AMF Skyrider I picked up for free.

Picked up this '91 Trek 930 last weekend for $10. I went over it completely and didn't have to spend any more on it. I am not into mountain bikes so I just listed it on CL.

How does a fork get a reverse bend like that? It's like the previous owner was involved in a front-end collision while traveling in reverse.

Or someone extremely obese tried to stand up and pedal.

Drummerboy1975 04-05-14 01:49 PM

Easy. Turn the fork backwards and pedel your ass off into a curb or parked car.

If that was a 23 inch 990 of the same year, I'd be all over it in a heartbeat..!,,,,BD

Bought a present for my new Electra Amsterdam find of last weekend. Textured Brooks B.67. I rode about three miles on the old saddle, before I started going numb. This thing was comfy right out of the box. Thin enough not to get in the way of a full pedal stroke. If it will fit in the end of the handlebar, I will be upgrading to a 9 speed bar end shifter. The angle of the present mtb shifter makes shifting awkward at best. Cork grips with amber shellac and a set of Paselas will find their way onto this bike before too long. The ride of this bike is pretty plush, and it's light enough to not be too tiring for longer than average rides. I have about half it's original price in it including the saddle.,,,,BD

Nice Electra Dude. On the shifters, I find that grip shifters work well on northroad bars.

Sweet jumps.

I used to do these as a kid at the bakery up the street after school all the time, on all sorts of bikes. Whatever we were riding at the time.

Ride up the ramp at the side, turn around and drop the dock.

Rinse, lather, & repeat until the sun went down or I could hear my mom calling...

I was working on the side of the road in Westchester County, and I find a Continental Competition tubular tire! Closer inspection revealed a broken valve core. The base tape is in perfect shape with no glue (weird), perfect tread pattern with no measurable wear, and no rubber cracks or slices on the casing.

SWEET!!

So, 10 minutes this AM with a drill, tap, and a core from the parts bin and I am in business. Yay! I've got it mounted up on a rim and it looks like I really lucked out. It seems to me that someone had it as a spare to limp home, and they broke the core during inflation. Talk about bad luck for them but good luck for me.

It seems like these things retail for anywhere between $60 and $100. Nice spare.

I found this Schwinn Le Tour Lux thrown out with the trash. The RD hangar snapped off of the frame. The RD cage is bent pretty bad. Everything is original including tires. I will try mounting a Suntour Honor RD I have sitting in my parts bin to see if I can get it on the road again.

Cleaned lubed and polished the bike. I found a Suntour GT RD long cage in the $5 bin at the LBS. I put an extra set of pedals I had on the bike and bought a new chain. The bike rides great. Will be listing it on CL tomorrow.

Picked up this Carlton at a nearby LBS today. Bike is actually complete, but disassembled. Full Reynolds 531 with butted tubes, interesting lug work, wrap around stays. Most of the drive components are Campy. Williams cottered crankset. I am guessing early 1960s.
