my catches from the hour I spent at the trexlertown swap meet today:

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
Went to the semi annual MEC swap today and saw a lot of stuff but was short on cash and have a shop full of stuff I need to sort through before I gather any more... the mint '92 Miyata 1000 that was selling for $400.00 (in my size and favourite colour too) was so very tempting and I gave the guy my number in case it did not sell.
Got some Exage pedals with clips that are nice but the new celeste straps on them are nicer, got front racks for my touring bike for $2.00, a new 20 inch rim for $5.00, and picked up a free Shimano high flange hub as was given some old 105 road pedals with toe clips that I was told had been used twice.
My friend gave me a back a set of NOS Gipiemme c100 cranks I gave him last year (that he never used) as well as some decent 26 inch rims and Continental tyres he was no longer using.

You guys sure are fortunate. In Fla bikes are seen mostly as toys or indicate that someone is homeless or has had a DUI. And a swap meet? what the hell is that? *lol* We have garage sales, curb sales, rumage sales, and flea markets. And you might be lucky and find something worthwhile, but it takes a lot of patience and time.
I had to look up Trexlertown to see what you were dealing with and there was a link to something in Fla that actually had already past and took me to a Minn twin cities site anyway. *sob n sniffle*

When you do find something, most of the time you can get it for next to nothing. Flea markets are the best places to find parts, imo, even so if there mostly mtb parts. But they aint swap meets...

I found this Japanese (apparently) mixte yesterday on the curb. Suntour components, 973 cr-mo, double butted, seitetsu steel. The biggest decal says Alloy Standard (downtube) and it says OMNI on the headtube. What is this bike? Anyone know anything about it? I can't seem to find any info on the internet.

Looks like an early 1980s Jim Blackburne rear rack...nice! Alloy crankset, SunTour deraileurs, Dia-Compe side pulls! Nice catch! Probably about 30 years old, and looks like it will clean up nice. Tires salvageable?

As I wasn't able to join Poguemahone at Trexlertown yesterday (combination of work, wife's health, and lack of free money), I spent pretty much all of my free time riding. On the way home today, I do my usual pass by the county transfer station (aka dump, for a rural area that won't put up with a dump next door) and this time I get lucky.
That's an 80's Schwinn Sprint, actually in fair condition despite the broken derailleur, rusted chain and freewheel, etc. The steel rims are clean, the frame's not too banged up. This one is definitely going to go on the fixie and flip pile, the profits giving me some badly needed money for parts on the Trek Pilot I've got gathering dust in the attic.
For me, this is the more interesting one: A Diamondback Ascent EX, I'm guessing late 80's from the components and shifters (I'm not all that conversant on early mountain bikes yet). It's got what appears to be a complete Shimano Mountain LX group. I have a feeling I'm going to clean this one up, rebuild it, hang it in the attic and wait for a proper set of wheels to arrive. I notice I'm starting to mess around with vintage mountain bikes a lot more than I ever expected to.

I picked up this stripped down Schwinn World Tour frame+headset for $40
There's minor rust but the paint isn't in great condition. I'm going to sand down the rusty areas and paint them white appliance enamel. I don't have too much money to spend on this bike so I think I'm going to make it a fixed gear.
The seat tube is 67cm and the head tube is 10-11 inches!! It's a good thing I'm just tall enough to ride this thing. I don't know how comfortable it will be for long distance riding, so I may keep it as my commuter.
The crank set is from my first bike, an SR from the 70s or 80s, which was crushed when I was hit by a car a couple months ago.

this is a late 60's, early 70's Raleigh Record. the s/n is 1396706. its in increadible condition. my brother picked it off the side of the road during junk day. i ride it every day 1 mile to work at a bike shop on the upper east side of manhattan.
i need the metal spoke gaurd, im pretty sure the simplex derailure is not stock, and the friction shifter clamp is cracking. other than that its in amazing shape. whats it worth?

Mine is a 23-incher. Otherwise, it's the same bike. I got mine with components and wheels for $10.

Replacing the Simplex group with a Suntour friction group would really improve the bike as that series of Simplex derailers are very poor and when it comes to friction components, Suntour is really the best when you factor in cost and availability.
The jockey wheels on those Simplex rear d's are notorious for breaking and can be replaced with Suntour jockey wheels quite easily.

Scored a 10 dollar bike today. Its a Ross "Adventure".
Low end shimano derailleurs that shift clean, stem shifters, Shimano brakes and levers...Its a low-end bike, hi-ten steel everything but totally worth the price of lunch.

Well, I picked up an old Varsity that I avoided at my favorite thrift store yesterday. Since today is senior day, I got a healthy discount by waiting. It doesn't meet my regular flip criteria, but I should come out OK.
Bike actually has a good seat and good pedals, unusual in my thrift store finds. Paint is in pretty good shape, needs the usual tires, cables, grease and bearings. I have some take-off tires I can reuse, that will hold down my spending some.
I also picked up a Miyata 215ST off of ebay today. Not a thrift store pricing kind of deal, but the bike is really clean.

Not C&V, but I know how people here appreciate a great deal. Got all three of these for $350, the one with the Bianchi decals is apparently a Leader? I dunno, but there is a lot of Ultegra, some 105, some Tiagra(I think), a lot of carbon fiber stuff, and even a little bit of Campy, also good tires, two sets are conti ultra gatorskins. All three are 9 speed. I might build one of the Scattantes up for myself with all the better stuff, and I'd like to keep all three wheel sets, but I figure I can still probably come close to doubling my money with what's left over.
