Were it not for the tires and the white bottle holders, I would have thought that my wife had sold my bike while I was at work! Mine is the same down to the black rear rack and seat bag. I replaced the stock tires with Pasela 700x32's. I still need to replace the saddle, bars and grips. I don't like the grip-shifts, did you replace yours?

Not that old, but ... This was a recent garage sale find ("after" pix) that I paid too much for, but it was my size and I had my eye out for one. The 17-year-old tires were "toast", the L-side Grip-Shifter was broken, the stock deraileurs were junk, the brake pads were hard like cinder blocks, the spoke protector was crumbling apart, the bearing grease had rubberized, and it was a Grimey, shmutz-encrusted, dingey, filthy mess. A good "scrap metal" candidate to most folks. It now has 700 x 37 WTB Slickasaurus tires, Shimano STX derailleurs and cantilever brake calipers, Shimano QR hub skewers, new brake pad, rear rack, 2 water bottle cages, and a mid-1980s L-side thumb shifter (i like friction shifters for the front changers). Cleaning supplies included Awesome cleaner, Gunk Engine Brite, Turtle Wax polishing wax, Turtle Wax car wax, Castrol axle grease. Testors red model paint was "right on the money", and help up to being polished with car wax. These bikes are nice riding and pretty versatile.

Found this Peugeot Champion PK12 for $30 last weekend, I replaced the bar tape, saddle and broken plastic shifters. The bike is pretty nice, I did not even have to clean it. Must have been quite high in the lineup, but there is not much info on this model.

That's a sweet Peugeot. You just need to find some Simplex "retrofriction" shifters to replace those pathetic Campagnolo ones.

Men's Rudge, complete and original.
Women's Robin Hood, with 3-speed coaster brake and one hand brake. Has steel baskets attached to the rear fender.
Both need work and are extremely dirty. I haven't inspected or dated them yet. I think they're from the late 1950's.
I'm excited! The Rudge is the holy grail of English three-speeds, in my book.

Thanks for your compliments! The Campy shifters work just fine and the braze-on is very different from the typical braze-ons. I tried fitting different shifters but none would work. Unless I am mistakent the Simplex retrofriction would not work on these bosses.

love it! I just bought a '53 Rudge-Whitworth last week but I paid $100 for it and the paint's been retouched a lot, plus some dodo painted over most of the decals. But it's a terrific, nimble bike with a beautiful dynamo and the headbadge and the chain ring are to die for. I can't touch $15 apiece though--that's fantastic.

My Rudge is a pleasure to ride, and my favorite, but I question the validity of Raleigh's "senior" and "junior" brands. They are all darned good bicycles.

Today's really weird catch, not bicycle related, is a "racing kit" from the 1970s. Includes personalized helmet, face shield tear offs, bubble goggles, boots, and a nice bag. No idea if there is any value here, not even sure what type of racing used this stuff: dirt, stock car, or whatever?? If anyone has any ideas, drop me a PM.
Really sad when you find something that should be a family treasure at the local thrift store...

Another ST If it fits my wife, it'll replace her Schwinn Traveler. If not, it should really fit my mom well (who has been thinking about getting a road bike). Bought it sight-unseen since 15 other people who replied to the ad on our work classifieds were waiting for pics. My friend picked it up for me last night - going to get it after work. I think it's a '89 model....but not sure. Need to do more research or just rely on posts here

The various brands of Raleigh three speeds were almost identical, so yes, there's no reason to look down on any of them. The Rudge's fork is different, and I adore the way it looks.

anyone heard of the Trenton NJ Boys & Girls bike exchange place? Just found out about it. Kinda like a salvation army, people donate old bikes, but they gotta be in decent shape, and they sell em to the public at really low prices, and all proceeds go to after school programs and the like.
Going tomorrow to check it out, might be some gems there.
