Miele Man

A dumpster rescue. Columbus SL frame set. Campy record cranks, headset and brake levers. Modolo brake calipers. Dura Ace rear mech and Campy front mech. Wheels were tubular with cyclo-cross tires on them. Top tube was cracked where the rear brake cable enters it. Cinelli bar and stem were moved to my Cinelli Columbus SLX Miele.

That's a nice bike dued. I have a weakness for chrome mountain bikes too. And while I don't currently have one, per se. I do have a Diamondback Ridge Runner that has plenty of the chrome showing near the drop outs and fork ends.

Not sure about the bars and stem, but are the Lee Chi levers stock? Every bike I've seen from that era have Dia Comp levers.

Have had a little luck over the past few weeks finding some bikes at garage sales. My current quick fix project is this older Ross Hi-tech mountain bike which is half way through getting its new tires.

I went to the garage sales this morning hoping to find a dusty old De Rosa or Pinarello but none were to be found. However, I did find a pair of neon Oakley Razor sunglasses with grey and iridium lenses and extra earpieces and nosepieces, all for five dollars. Hmm, now I guess I'll have to find a vintage LeMond La Vie Claire jersey to complete the look.

Catch of the day:

1991/92 Schwinn Paramount PDG Series 30 Mountain bike…loving' the splatter, and it looks basically unused (great Deore LX components all around, showing very little wear).

Will make a great upgrade replacing my girlfriend's mid-to-later-90s Taiwanese Bianchi MTB. For $75 Canadian (about $68 US), I'll take one like it any day of the week.

I thought so - it was wayyy out of town in a semi-rural area, and no description to speak of in the CL ad, but the folks had business in the city and met me 15mins from my place with a helluva nice little bike!

I kinda wish it was my size, but it'll be just right for my girlfriend…so at least it's sticking around!

I'll have pics later, but here's the story:

While out riding my '11 Magna Rip Curl around our local campground yesterday morning after work (and before we broke camp), I noticed a couple of bikes with price tags on them outside the trailer of one of the fulltimers. One was a store-brand cruiser that had seen better days, and the other was a dirty but all-there Huffy Bay Pointe. It needs greasing and a good chain de-rusting, but it was used for riding in an annual charity ride over some fairly rugged hills (by western Kentucky standards anyway) as late as last year. I haven't decided if it will be my campground cruiser or replace the Rip Curl on the college campus where I am a security guard. We'll see when I get it all cleaned, lubed and tuned.

Yeah they're stock, and I am also finding that the brake calipers are made to be permanent fixtures on this bike. Lovely proprietary spring pin holes, on the OUTside of the mounts. Not on the inner (wheel side) of the mount where they belong. Oh well, I suppose I could find some way to install new bushings in them when they wear out. Raleigh made a bike or two with this mount, which stopped me from doing a refit on one of them once. Still love it though.,,,,BD



Changed out the one dimensional cheapy cranks, to a set of Takagi Tourney A/D's I had. I thought they were the XT's, but they look very similar.,,,,BD



The brakes... Why oh why did they decide to make it impossible to install another brake? It's not like you could/can run out and buy a replacement set of Lee Chi calipers, even back then..?

Went to pick up a touring fixer upper from a local flipper and ended up bringing this with me too, it's in super nice condition and couldn't pass on it

1972 Schwinn Suburban 5-sp.....was in a trash pile with the original tires that only needed air. Later that week I came home to my horror to find my sweet little wife had two potted plants hanging from it with a crafty little sign she made stating "Welcome to Our Home!!!!" I have finally wrestled it from her pretty little hand and the full restoration has begun.

Thanks - mostly Athena I think. I haven't had a chance to really look it over. Front wheel is not original - has a Mavic red label rim and some funky hub (just saying, not complaining )

Got some Miyata bikes One wannabe touring bike. possibly/ im not really sure about the road bike world other then its a road bike it has curly bars lol. the other is a touring bike. Also got a Gazelle SA 5 speed with drum brake wheelset. Already butchered it for the wheels. all where very very good deals.

New member here. Really looking forward to diving right into BikeForums and to start things off I'm looking for a little help with a Sears 10-speed road bike I found in my grandparents garage today. My uncle says it was bought in the early seventies before he was in high school. He started in '74 so I've got it pegged to '70-73'. I've seen the name Free Spirit mentioned for bikes of this era but that decal doesnt appear anywhere on the bike so I've all but eliminated that possibility. All help with a positive identification on this bike is extremely appreciated.
I did some searches for NOS parts for this bike and I'm considering a moderate restoration to "working order" condition. As the photos show, there is surface rust throughout on the chrome and steel but It doesnt appear to be anything difficult. Please correct me if i'm wrong. The frame feels and looks pretty solid to me and I wouldn't touch it aside from a good cleaning, but i'd make sure the moving components were all top notch and safe. Pretty excited as this would be my first project. No interest in value really, just any info that could help me on my way. Thanks.

Does saved from the cannibalized old parts bin count? I found it already cannibalized in the old used spare parts bin at the LBS I work at. It was in the best condition of the two Ultegra RD6600 GS in the bin so I cannibalized a RD5600 for its b screw plate and spring, the other RD6600 for its limit screws, and a deore rear derailleur for the barrel adjuster.

After the cobbling together I asked the boss if I could buy it and he said "You can have it.". I'll put it on my Cannondale M600.
