I'll keep my eyes peeled. On the other hand, I have an Ultegra RD6600-SL SS that I bought as a spare. I'm tempted to transplant a long cage to that one just for fun.... Now if I could find a trashed mountain rear derailleur.

New to the the forum and absolutely loving it. I have a special relationship with bikes because I am unable to really ride them due to spinal surgery, paralyzed right vocal chord, and hip replacement the past year. It's the vocal chord of all things...can't get enough air in to supply the muscles demand for oxygen required for biking. Perhaps that's what fuels my love for the bikes? Anyway I buy them whenever I can, fawn over them and then finally flip them and repeat the process. This is what I acquired this week:

Neighbor was moving out in a hurry and had Electra Cruiser 1 by the curb as well as the following bike
The second pic is a Bridgstone MB-6 converted single speed and the last is some kind of Nishiki International from 1988

wandered down my street to my neighbor's garage sale, he was closing up for the night, and was trying to give away stuff. i took a look at this nice Gary Fisher, noticed the price... 10 bucks!... he comes up to me and says.. 5 bucks and its yours... thats an easy one... its too small but itll make a nice flip.

This 90 something Supercycle SC1800 came from across the street. Saddle and rear brake arm are toast, everything else is fine. I guess it will become my winter beater bike. Cost $0.00.

Sucks to hear, but it's cool that you can still be into bikes even though you can't ride them. Wrenching is pretty fun though. So what happens when you fix bikes, how do you test ride them.

I can ride down hill really good! Then I eventually call someone to pick me up. (Just kidding) I can tool around a little bit, especially on our flat cul-de-sac but I have my son put them through their paces when needed. He has fun with it.

I should have known better than to pick up such a low-end pile of rust, but the price was right and it "spoke to me" for some reason.

I was just responding to another post when yours popped up. Thanks for saying, 'It spoke to me'. My wife doesn't understand lol but it happens to me all the time. My face will light up with excitement and I turn to her expecting, somehow, to see the same thing. Instead I am greeted by an incredulous expression and she says, "Really?"

Thanks! It's not pretty but it rides really well and one of my son's favorites. I read an article about just how much your mind is preoccupied with shifting and how you enjoy the ride so much more with a single speed. This bike really brings that home.

thanks, its nothing special, the components are a mix and the frame isn't the cleanest , but it will clean up. the PO has the security quick releases on everything, and he lost the tool, part of the reason for the price reduction.

I just found this behind a wall. Found by a caretaker and ridden. Spun the wheels...feel dry! I paid $40.00 to save it!

Nice little mixte score here. It has Shimano light action, Stronglight cranks. There doesn't seem to be much info
out there about Falcon bikes. Other than the saddle and the wraps it is in excellent condition.

This is an old post, but I feel it's relevant to today. I used to own this exact model, and a typical commute on that bike was 30 miles, approximately 15 each way. That Shimano transmission function perfectly, and I must have accumulated a total of 3,500 miles before selling it to a friend due to a move. Last I remember, that friend still has that bike, and has been riding it off and on for over 30 years. They might have been "entry level" back then, but they sure could last!

At the LBS to pick up a few things, sitting in the service area was a squarely 80s Peugeot roady. I'm acquainted with the techs and asked what it's story was. Turned out was donated as this shop will do a quick rehab and donate to a local in need. Turned out that local was me as I showed up at the right moment they wanted the space back. '84 p8, Sachs-Huret drivetrain, helicomatic rear, needs tires.

^Some believe that the Helicomatic is a very fine system. I've got one and it seems pretty good to me...others not so much!

I had a Helicomatic and it worked well most of the time. It has a hollow space on the tips of the cogs that my chain would get caught in. I would pedal and go nowhere. It did not happen often but just enough to piss me off and sell the bike.

If you use the original Sedis chain they don't seem to do that. Something about the plate thickness or design? And yep I know exactly what you're talking about. It's dangerous in traffic, if you need to clear an intersection. I learned not to shift until after I had completely crossed over.,,,,BD

^ I have the same problem from time to time on my Peugeot Vagabond as well, mostly on the larger cogs. I think it has the original chain (very low miles bike) but I'll check.
