Wow -- that older Raleigh looks to have DUI style ("flipped") Lauterwasser bars ... nice.

HSEAN..."Well heres that Sports I was talking about, but wait theres more! feast your eyes on this Other Raleigh I got today, It did clean up well too."
The Sports looks like a '74 model, and with a 23" frame. The other Raleigh has a Dyno-Hub generator and a fairly old head lamp. Those are very nice to have around. The bell and pump look good, too.

well, not totally saved from the dump, but i got this from the campus bike auction in rough condition. just the frame, shifters, seatpost, and derailers. headset looked absolutely pathetic. spent more than i wanted at the auction (was originally going to use it for welding practice and a spare fixed gear frame, believe me it looked rough when i got it). but after spending 70 on it and seeing the derailers were great, it decided to make it into an updated road bike. all in all i think it was 300, which i'm happy with since it's solid compared to what else it going for around that on craigslist here in the bay area

Found yet another mixte at the recycle bin today. This one is in good shape and just needs cables, a chain, tires, tape and some grease. Even the hoods and leather straps are in great shape. I love the red metalic paint but it's chipped pretty badly. It's a Bridgestone and made of 4130 straight gauge. It has an odd mix of parts - mostly Shimano light action but the rear wheel has a Normandy hub, Atom/Maillard skewer, Suntour derailleur and Sturmey Archer spoke protector. The wheels are 700c and drilled for presta valveswith the lightest gauge spokes I've seen in a long time.

I don't do garage sales very often, but found this while riding my bike in the neighborhood.
The woman was just starting to close the garage door for the day when I noticed this old
Chicago built Schwinn. It's a 23" 5 speed Collegiate, even has a Schwinn speedometer and
generator set! At $5 I couldn't resist.
These two came from Dad's weekly pickup. The Miyata 110 is a 64cm and has wacky looking
Shimano sis EXAGE MOTION & Light Action shifters at the top of the handlebars, and Bio Pace
chainrings. The wheels are out of true, but otherwise it's in good shape. The other is a Huffy
TECHTRA (technology transfer) that I really didn't want, but dad insisted I take it.
Turns out it does have 27" aluminum wheels with good tires though.

That Collegiate looks like the perfect neighborhood rider...with a different saddle of course. Only a crazed lunatic could resist the charm at that one...especially with the fenders, speedometer and generator set! By the way, "Dad" must have been a Beatles fan...."...the best things in life are free..." That Myata, that previously posted Schwinn...one man's trash, is any other man who likes to cycle's treasure.

Is that chainring design supposed to be a hand, or is that just my imagination?

Now I ask you, are there more ladies frames out there or are they ladies on their own on Craigslist? I guess one can argue that girls weren't as harsh on bikes but since I know more than a few young ladies BMXing I'd be likely to discount this theory some.

I picked these up for $10 at a local bicycle co-op. They'll need some surgical removal of the decrepit hoods and some polishing up. I like the adjusters on top. They'll go on my Univega Custom Maxima in place of the chicken levers.

I have only seen the top adjuster on some Schwinn models. I am sure others used it, but my experience with them has been Schwinn only. That was what was on the Super Le Tour 12.2 I picked up a few years ago.

The flea market guy has set of those shifters, wants $20 for them alone. I also think I found a bike belonging to a relative of the 110's original owner, hehe. Same exact brake lever adjusment, hehe.,,,,BD
