It was a little dirtier and needed air when I found it. I also put some mink oil on the B72 Brooks saddle. It had a old style seat post on it . I put a modern seatpost on, but had to buy a seat sandwich for $19 to make it work due to a double rail.

Great deal, and an East Hill bike to boot...

Great deals, for me, are few and far between. Eastern NC CL extends basically from VA to SC and that's a lot of driving, so I only check it 2x a week at most. Fellow BF member and hill-climbing goat norskagent gave me a heads-up on a Terry-designed bike. The ad said "old, dirty, Suntour, and original price about $400."

I have a riding partner who teaches in that town, 8 miles from the VA border, and she picked it up for me. The bike will basically cost me a NOS, in the box, Bell Alchera helmet.

Tange 1 frame 48cm x 49cm, lugged fork. Suntour headset, SR Custom 65mm stem, Sakae 36cm bars.
Suntour Cyclone 7000 indexed group, to incl hubs, FD, RD, 165mm cranks, calipers, shifters, and pedals.
Rims are Araya red label, front is 24" or whatever that is metrically, and the rear is 700c.
Rings are Suntour 48/40 and Suntour freewheel is 13-28 six speed. Tires are Panaracer Technova.

I have a lot of work to do, some minor touchup, but it's unique bike and a nice find.
Thanks, norskagent, for the heads-up. These are the "before" pictures, after one rinse-off . It really was filthy.

1966 ladies' Schwinn Collegiate

Found this neglected old beauty at the local dump here in the high desert of northern California. According to the dealer sticker on the seat tube, it came from a dealer in Susanville. The serial number dates it at May, 1966. Frame size is 19".

I had already disposed of the original tires when I made these photos. They were too far gone to save, but the tubes are still in great shape, and hold air. The tubes are marked "Schwinn Approved", so they may be original. I already found a set of good used 597mm tires at the Reno Bike Project, for a reasonable $3 each.

I'm not sure yet what I will do with it. Despite the awful cosmetics, it appears to have VERY low miles. If I get it all clean and shiny again, with all the bearings repacked and spinning smoothly, it should make a nice sunny day ride for my girlfriend, with the addition of a taller seatpost to suit her 34-1/4" standover height.

Darron

After a little test cleaning and polishing on a section of rim.
It cleans up nicely, thanks to that durable,
thick chromium plating that Schwinn seems to have used:

Very cool. You really don't see many. That may bring some good cash on Ebay so don't do a CL flip till you look.

I landed a 1987 no miler garage queen "Gambit" in Feb for my wife. Not as high of a model as yours. 27/24 Red lables. Shimano Light action. High ten frame. As soon as the 7 speed freehub shows up this is getting the RSX brifters off my 95 T700.

Awesome, Grim. I now know of 4 different brands that marketed a Terry frame:
1-Centurion Ironman Terry, Tange 1, full 105 2x6, unsure of the wheelset. Exceptional one on eBay went for $382. The infamous "jammin' salmon" paint scheme. BF member East Hill (on break). Also on velospace by churz.
2-Nishiki Prestige (Terry), Tange 2, full Suntour Cyclone/5000 2x6 indexed, Araya rims, unsure of size. BF member smoothness.
3-Jeanie Longo (Terry), unsure of details. A guy built it for his girlfriend, she got it in the split. He PM'd me on velospace.
4-Terry "Gambit" above, 27/24 Arayas, Shimano Light Action. HiTen. Set up like a Centurion Lemans. BF member Grim.
4a-Terry "Despatch" above, 700c/24, and Suntour Cyclone 7000 setup. 1986, RobbieTunes

Would be cool to see more, maybe thread 'em.

Well, I went ahead and picked up the Look bike that was on the Craigs List/ebay deals list. Frameset is very nice, I sure wish it was my size. Besides what is in the picture, I also got handlebars, stem, brake levers, rear wheel, cassette, and the other chain ring.

Nice Reynolds 753r frameset.

Beautiful Look. (But no bottle cage holes on the seat tube?) Seems to be about my size . . . 62cm?

That's right, the only cage bosses are on the down tube.

^I'm glad you picked it up. I told the guy I would get back to him next time I'm in Charlotte in case he still had it, as I couldn't see letting that bike go unappreciated somewhere. Great deal too.

A couple of pick ups to share. The first is a 1984 Lotus Eclaire. Its a touring bike, with pretty decent components. Whoever did the marketing for Lotus sure botched the name of this touring bike. But it is a pretty good model.

I got this one off ebay this week, local pickup only option. Got to love those local pickup only auctions. Even so, the price was on the higher end for me on this bike (it was a buy it now). It looks better in the picture than in person, but I think it will turn out fine. Unfortunately, it is not my size, so once I rehab it, it will be off to a new home. Front wheel is wrong (steel rim, nutted axle), but I have others in hand. Its my second Lotus, I really like the brand, just can't find my size... It has the unusual Deore AX style crankset. Fortunately, the pedals look OK.

I have been having a run on wheels at garage sales lately. In the last few weeks, I have picked up a set of Zipp 909 front/900 rear carbon tubulars with tires, a set of Mavic Cosmic Elites with tires, a set of Shimano WH 540s with tires, and a nice orphan Shimano Ultegra front wheel. I sure wish the guy had a rear wheel to go with that Ultegra!

The Zipps are already off to their new home, the rest will go to stock for future use.

1951 Raleigh Clubman for $50!

Ask and ye shall receive...I put a want ad on Craigslist for old touring bikes, and voilą: 1951 Raleigh Clubman, with dynohub and lights, for $50. I'm kinda psyched about this one. It's pretty rough at the moment, but I think it'll clean up nicely. I'm not normally a stickler for accurate restorations, but this one seems worth it; I'm sure I'll have lots of questions for y'all soon!

Nice catch. I can tell that under all that dirt is a really great bike.
