Vitus 992 w/ Shimano 600 STI

Vitus 992 - $250 (Downtown)

This is an early 90's Vitus 992 bike with mostly shimano 600 components. It has a Mavic headset as well as a Campignolla front hub and skewer. This bike was for racing and is extremely light in weight. If you have any questions just let me know. FYI I am 6 ft tall and it fits great.

Skidoo - mentioning his willingness to ship would've sold me. Again, glad it's not my size!

This is a local "flipper" that posts a lot of reconditioned lower end road bikes at fairly high prices. He doesn't know difference between a seat post and a seat tube so I don't know how good his work is. I was "seeing" the manager at a local thrift shop for a couple years and was getting about a bike a week. This guy must average one a day so has a real "in" someplace.

Someone buy this quickly..... I'm sorely tempted. Price is a bit high but successful haggling is half the pleasure in a find like this! From the Salem, Oregon Craigslist:

Motobecane Grand Record, 21-1/2" , 531, Campagnolo, circa 1976, NOS !

And time's running out on this Ganna. My guess he'll accept the highest offer at the end of the auction. The Euro is tanking, the time is now!!

Pardon me if I don't know much about Gannas, but... whoa, that is one crazy derailleur. Pretty bicycle, though! Does anyone know something about it?

1935 = pre-derailleur as we know it.

Puts the whole "weight weenie" thing in perspective, doesn't it? "I can't buy an Ultegra derailleur! It weighs 4 grams more than that one that's $100 more!"

Not at all! In 1935 this guy was probably gloating over his weight savings sans RD! Naw, kidding.

Okay, that totally makes sense then, I hadn't noticed its dating.

Ganna was a manufacturer in Italy. They sponsored teams that rode in th Giro. I think WW2 may have done them in but I don't know for certain. The derailleur is a first generation Vittoria Margherita. The lever is to adjust chain tension when switching gears, which was done by hand. In their next generation, the little triangle at the top of the lever was made into a separate part. When you twisted that part, it moved the "butterflies" on top of the chainstay to move the chain. Since the butterfly is on top of the chainstay instead of the bottom (like the Super Champion), you have to pedal backwards to change gears.

In 1937 the TdF allowed derailleurs for the first time and all teams ran the Super Champions. In 1938 the Italian team was allowed to use the Vittoria Margherita and Gino Bartali won using it.

Here is Bartali's bike.

It is interesting he dates it as 60s-70s when the serial number indicates it could be as early as the mid to late 50s. As a matter of fact, this very bike is listed on the Frejus registry, https://www.classicrendezvous.com/Ita...al_numbers.htm
