Campania Medalist
Does anyone know anything about them? A coworker has one from the 70's, that her father bought for her. She road it a bit, but it has been sitting for the most part, as it was a little big for her. I know it will probably be tiny for me, but might work out well for my wife, or as another bike to my collection. I'll be picking it up tonight from her.
I tried here, Sheldon Brown, CR, Google, Old Roads, Ebay, all sorts of places. I can't seem to find much on it, other than it is Japanese. Anyone know anything on the brand, model, parts list, etc? I'll post pics and anything else I can as soon as possible.

I was able to go through and read a little more about Campania in general. I'll try to get some pics tonight and the serial number and let yall know. I have no idea what the shape of this bike is, but I am hoping it isn't too bad. We'll see.
Cheers!

I did take a look at the SN. It is Y74-0006284. I take it the Y74 might mean it is a 1974? It also had the McIver sticker at the top, which confirms a lot of what I was reading in other posts about the frame being imported from Japan, then built by McIver in So. Cal.
The frame overall is a bit rusty, as you can see in the pics. The chrome on the legs had some rust spots, which I was able to get off with some work. The chrome is a bit pitted though. The paint isn't bad, other than the rust. Most of the parts are SR and Suntour, although it does have Shimano Tourney brakes. The components will need some work and cleaning, but I found I was able to get a lot of the rust off with a wire brush on the dremel on a low speed.
I think the first step will be to completely disassemble it and check the inside of the frame to see it's current condition. If it is buildable, I'll strip it, repaint it, get new stickers, and rebuild it for the wife. Not sure if I will use the original components, or get "new" vintage components. The stem shifters will be going, no matter what though! If not, I might strip it down, except for the head tube badge, clear coat it, and put it up on the wall of the shop, a.k.a., the garage.
Overall, for a dumpster saver, I think it will be a fun project, no matter how it turns out. More to come.
