Pletscher racks - Who knew?

So I googled Pletscher and found this site.

https://www.thorusa.com/pletscher.htm

I had no idea you could still buy Pletscher racks. Everyone had one on their bikes in the 70's. They have a front rack that looks pretty good too. For $80 I can outfit my Grand Prix with front and rear racks, COOL. I'm making my GP a grocery getter and these racks should be perfect with a couple of grocery type rack/baskets. And the front rack I think I will outfit with one of those bread baskets from Velo-Orange.

It is amazing. And at that price, "noch hergestellt in der Schweiz!" Hard to believe... .

I had a back rack to carry my books to high school... good memories!

The original ones from the 70's still sell for ~15 to 20 bucks on ebay. Pretty amazing that you can buy a new one for less than the used ones go for.

I've got them on a couple bikes because I love the spring clip. I may get one of those front racks as well.

Pletscher racks lack some of the curb appeal of some of the new kids on the block but they are hella strong (they have a 55 pound rating) and stand up well to the rigours of daily use.

My favourite Pletchser product is my touring stand.

I put one of those double kickstands on my 1990 Hardrock grocery getter. Will hold a very heavy load. And you can remove either wheel and balance the bike without putting it on a stand, so it makes it easy to work on a heavy bike.

I like the touring stand. The racks not so much. They remind me of cheap bikes ridden by school kids in the seventies. The type that clamped to the seatstays always scraped off lots of paint.

Topeak makes a couple of racks with the spring clips, too. They bolt onto frame eyelets and you can easily hang panniers on them as well. Nice product.
