Gum Hoods Dia Compe Non Aero

I am looking for Gum Hoods for Non Aero Dia Compe levers. The few that I can find on E-Bay are silly money or they are nasty plastic copies in brown or black. There was a thread circa 2005 but nothing since?

I'm not certain this is what you had in mind, but the price is right at about $10 plus shipping. Best of luck.

actually those "crappy plastic copies" are made by Cane Creek & I have a set of black ones as well as a set of NOS brown Dia Compe's ( i found them in a dusty bag in the back of my LBS & couldn't resist.)

To be honest, the Cane Creek copies are of a higher quality then the original Dia Compe's. Nice & thick & not nearly as prone to tearing during installation

You can find both the Cane Creek ones & the NOS Dia Compe ones on the 'bay for pretty much the same price.

I have some of those Cane Creek ones, too. While I'd prefer a Gum color, the brown has one advantage -- it doesn't get dirty like the gum ones did. They were cheap at the LBS and have proven to be very durable.

I have a set of those in white in good condition, no cracks or weak spots.
If white will work, PM me.

These are listed as Dia Compe Non Aero in Gum. Of course the crappy photo shows black instead. Sometimes the hoods at Niagara Cycle get misfiled under Brake Parts rather than under hoods.

I ordered some black Dia Compe hoods from Niagara, and when they showed up they were branded Cane Creek, which to me is not a big deal. Same company, right?

I needed to replace my old Dia-Compe gums and had to do with the Cane Creek set. I get the impression they're more durable, but they're not nearly as "'cushy" as the old ones.

+1 Cane Creek: Loose Screws, ebay or Niagara.

I also picked up a new old stock of dia-compe brakes, with levers, hoods, and cables on ebay a couple of weeks ago. Cost 2X of what the reproduction hoods alone cost.

Just make sure they are correct for the model of brake lever on which you intend to mount them.

By the mid 1980s Dia-Compe made a few different brake lever bodies which required entirely different hoods... and I'm speaking here of variations of the NON-Aero body styles.

The fairly common model 204 levers, for example, had a distinctive "spout" for routing the cables out and these were sold with somewhat ergonomic or "anatomically" molded hoods to fit these later levers - which were shaped more like early Campagnolo.

The more simple [like early Weinmann-style] levers generally accepted the most common style of hoods which you can still find in Black, Tan (Gum), and sometimes in white. These are quite nice hoods (and decent replacements for some Weinmanns, as well), although not at all as cushioned as the earlier true "gum" hoods.

A set of a pair of fairly basic Model 154 "Standard" levers
with white Model 144 hoods:

And here, are "New Gran Compe" levers
with model RGC-202 (Royal Gran Compe) hoods:
