Seems ahead of its time. Great shots, great music, great image quality. Apparently, for the opening sequence, they used a 1000mm lens from NASA, that was 1m wide!

That is some amazing footage, people who were alive to race back then were so lucky, todays racing its disgusting for the most part, no fair!

Racing is still beautiful, and I guarantee if you could get in a way-back machine and give any racer from any previous era a modern pro bike and kit they would swap it for the current mount in a heartbeat.

I think the guys that were actually there would think the current riders are the lucky ones.

You can't write-off modern cycle racing on just style. And before you bring up the "D" word, that was going on back in the "good old days" too.

Nice to see all those classic racers in a beautiful region Quebec. And the criterium in Montreal was a nice peek at how the city used to look like.

They sure had a different way of handling injured people, and putting them on stretchers. Guess that was pre-lawsuit days. I liked the one in the middle of the film "Hey, let's get you outta the street!"

Unless you see something to the contrary, I would assume a 1,000 mm lens was 1,000 mmm focal length, not diameter.

Remind me if there's ever a bicycle race through the neighborhood, and it's pouring down rain, to take my umbrella and go cheer anyway. Nobody was out watching in the rain.

Finally got it to load. That is a super cool little film! I thought George Lucas nailed "Green Onions" in the drag race scene of American Grafitti, but the endless loose version here to pedal motion was sublime.

What a hairball course as well, that muddy wood-planked bridge right off a corner was too much. The big American iron for team cars was great too.

I have no experience with bicycle racing, and have seen only a portion of the Tour de France once or twice on TV. But it seems to me these guys in the film are pretty tough. No helmets, no gay-looking jerseys, no goggles, no rain gear.

Couldnt have said it better. Black shoes, black wool shorts, white socks, wool jerseys. Its the way it is supposed to be. Last summer I'm out riding and I see a guy wearing white shorts, white shoes, and a pink jersey. I didnt know whether to laugh or cry.

My biggest frustration watching was trying to make out the kinds of bicycles they were riding. Some of the Italian riders were on Cinelli's, and there was something called a Select, but beyond that...

Great footage though. We went to Quebec in 2007, and a couple portions of the route looked a little familiar.

I think the worst part of racing then was that people didn't take them seriously, I mean, you'd think the cars in the beginning shot would have gotten out of the way and let the cyclists ride without messing up the race and crowding everyone up.

I mean, at least today they can clear off the streets so that doesn't happen.

Does that race still take place today?

I got the impression that those were the pace cars, or at least an official part of the race. Could be wrong.
