I think i bought a 1960s px10

but im not positive, I need help identifying it and need to know how much its worth
so i can determine weather to shave it or restore it

The guy who sold it to me didnt know what model it was. He didnt think it was a px 10 because
they have chrome on the chain stays. But I just read they started using the chrome after 1974
and this is 1960s model.

A PX10 was the top of the line Peugeot model and would be constructed with Reynolds 531 tubing. Mine from the 1980s, has a chromed fork and chromed chainstays.

The frame, definitely, although the BB shell is different from the ones I knew from '69-'72.

I'm not 100 percent sure about the fork, though--the curve is right, the dropouts look like Simplex, but the crown . . . It appears that Peugeot used different crowns over the years, so I can't be sure. If an Italian stem fits in the steerer, it could be from a Gitane Tour de France.

Frame looks correct, but where is the chrome? Fork, in my opinion, is definitely not from any PX10 I've ever seen - the crown looks wrong. It could be a replacement fork.

I think you may be right....but as Antipodes said, "where is the chrome?"

Is it a 60's model? If you look at the left rear dropout you'll see a 'tang' hanging down.....that is an indication that its a pre-71-ish model. On occassion I'll come across a very early 70's bike with that feature.


Over the years Peugeot used a variety of BB shells, fork crowns and seat lugs on the PX's. Some PX's have the full Nervex Pro lug set including the BB shell. I believe this may be a PX (where is the chrome)but one with only Nervex Pro head lugs. It has all of the other identifiers (except for rear chrome) such as the proper seatstay caps, single RD cable stop and and non-lugged brake bridge.

To answer some of the preceding comments...yes, PX10's could be found with UO8 style fork crowns. Yes, they could be found with plain BB shells.

There is/should be hierarchy to the framsets but I'm not ready piss off alot of PX10 owners....yet.

The bottom line is you need to ask the seller about the rear chroming. Ask in a non-direct way otherwise he'll say he stripped it.

My '74 PA10 has that "tang". It's supposed to guide the axle into the dropout. The derailer hanger serves the same purpose on the other side. I'm always careful not to let the axle contact either one, because axle threads are good for removing paint. I've only seen them on earlier bikes. they were probably using up leftovers when they built my bike. My frame has some other wierdness, like a fork with British threads that takes a 22mm French stem. My fork looks exactly like the one in the picture. Does it have very obvious seams on the back side? I'm wondering about the chrome, too. It would be obvious if it had been ground off. Was there something comparable to a PR10 in the sixties?

Thats good information to know. At times it seems as if someone was walking through the factory, found a box of old parts said, "lets use these today" regardless of how old they were.

Yes, there was something similar to the PR10...I'll look into that later. I'll also post a pic of a Reynolds 531 fork with a UO8 style crown.

Your thoughts on the 'seam' would ID the fork as a run of the mill replacement or a true Reynolds version.
