It's not a question that keeps me up at night, but out of curiosity I've searched for what the 'C' and 'B' signify in wheel/tire dimensions and haven't found an answer. While we're at it, is there such thing as an 'A' or 'D', etc.? It's not quite as intuitive as boobs, batteries or Estes Rocket engines.

That's originally how they came into being, but that isn't the case any more. (down a little further in your first link)

Ever seen an A or a B battery?
Actually I looked it up the other day. The A does the electronic stuff, the B heats up the vacuum tubes.

That explains why all my toys that took B batteries really sucked.
