Schwinn SN# lookup
Hello all. Long tim BF member, first time C&V post. Im trying to find info for a co worker on a bike found in mothers attic. It is a females Schwinn Collegiate, pinkish in color. AMAZING condition (no scratches, rust, dings, anything.) Looks new, all original parts minus tires, reflectors, and pedals. I am waiting on pics to be emailed to me, (I have seen it in person) and will post them when I can. SN on BB is 3071330, and 68E is stamped on the dropout. Any info, like year? I cant find i on the databases I searched. What other info do yo need?
TIA
Joe

The color is probably Violet. Does it look like this one?

If you don't have a general idea of the year it might take a while, but browse through the catalogs and you'll probably figure it out.
BTW anything stamped on the schwinn badge on the headtube?

I doubt that it was a mid-late '60s Violet Collegiate. Here's why: Only the '64 came with painted fenders, but not in Violet. Beginning in '65 Collegiates had chrome fenders. Also, there were no serial numbers on BB shells. They were originally on the left rear dropout and then moved to the head tube. Schwinn built serial numbers always begin with a letter and usually two letters.
Even the early '80s Collegiates had chrome fenders. Some did come as three speeds, and were Cardinal Red, more pinkish then Violet. The '84-87 Collegiate barely changed from year to year, had painted fenders, and a 3 speed, but was always blue. I believe '87 was the last year for the 2nd generation Collegiate which was produced from 1964 until 1987.
There was a first generation Collegiate that was offered, the best I can tell, in 1954. Here's a 1954 Catalog page, but notice the chrome fenders and it is a SS.

We need pictures. From the OP's description, it does not match a Collegiate.
