Campagnolo Atlanta 1996
Interested in a set of these. Does anyone ride on them? how and what do they compare to? Also. Anything about the history of these rims. They are laced to mid 90s record hubs. THAnks!

They are heavy (590 grams or so), 34mm deep rims. They are highly sought after and the rims fetch 250-300/ea on ebay if they are new. I would gladly buy another set if they were in the $200/wheelset range and had minimal brake wear.

Part of the mid-90's crazy aero wave. Look amazing! I should have bought some when they were extra cheap five years ago :(
IIRC, they were the rims used for the Shamal/Vento etc wheelsets. |
A bike I purchased in January came with a set of these. Lemme tell you, I am in love with them! They are pretty heavy, but nothing I notice as I don't race competitively. The ride is incredibly smooth and it feels like nothing could bang them out of true. Aesthetically they're very pretty, and polish up to a good shine.
At the time I knew they were nice, but I didn't know much about them and didn't know how nice. Unfortunately I'm planning on selling mine soon because they're way more then I want for my purposes. I'd appreciate more info too so I can get around to it... I've only come upon little bits and pieces of their history and value. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...g?t=1235192108 |

IIRC, they were the rims used for the Shamal/Vento etc wheelsets. A friend had a pair that cost him a little less than a pair of CXP-30 in the late-90's. My own inspection did not reveal any special features about the Atlantas that can explain their recent astronomical asking prices. $250-300 per rim, that's ludicrous. :wtf: |
I have a set of Moskva rims on C-record hubs on a 90s bike and they look sharp (no pun intended). But Campy catalogs show these rims were available new when my bike was new, so the 1980 Olympics thing does not date the rims.
here's a pdf of the '98 Campy catalog with Berlin 36 to Sydney 2000 rims http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/...lo+Catalog.pdf |
